Depends on where you live. In some very nice places across the USA, you could live a very nice life with 50K a year. The future is yours kid. Go out and get it. Be ruthless in obtaining the life that YOU want for yourself. Keep a clean conscience, but don't be afraid to take risks. Do whatever you have to do to succeed in making yourself happy.

50k is a great spot to be in just avoid as many pitfalls as possible.

Stay out of debt (be conscious of every dollar spent before you even think of using a CC)

Cars are only for transport so don’t buy stupid expensive cars (until you have the rest of your essentials secured AND you can buy your “dream car” in cash)

Stay in good health (eat right and exercise/lift or do bodyweights daily)

Avoid relationships with women (and don’t jeopardize your work by being with them, if you can’t get away with giving them a fake name then don’t get involved)

Don’t get into debt (again, the only good debt is leveraged debt like a cashflowing mortgage or business loan debt)

Live as minimalistic as your body and ego will allow, don’t let it drain your comfort but I know a guy who makes 1/2 of what I do and can be completely retired if he wanted to because he lives in a pretty kickass rv/camper.

Depends on where you live. If you live in New York City or Los Angeles, you are impoverished. But 60k generally is a decent salary in most places that will allow you to build upon.

Way too many variables. But suburb of an average city in US, 60k in current terms is not too bad. Do you want to rent or own? House or condo? How handy are you?

I save thousands on my vehicles because I do all the service. My house I do all the renovations/work on. This allows you to shift finances to other things.

Learn to live below your means and always have a buffer for when things go pear shaped.

learn this now, your salary means jack shit, tell me what your net worth is. Whatever you choose to pursue go to a public in state college if that's the route you need to go in order to enter said field. You go to college for a piece of paper that says pay me, nothing else. You going to private college doesn't mean shit in the working world for jobs unrelated to the likes of STEM.

I make 46K a year, I have no debt, and I don't own a home. Don't be in such a rush for home ownership but that's another topic for discussion. Limit the debt you take on and your life can be on easy mode too.

First, you're going to be paying income taxes on that money. Depending on the state you're in, federal + state tax could yank a good chunk away and you'll have 40K left in your pocket.

Depends also if you're in a high cost of living or low cost of living area or somewhere in between. Best thing to do is to move some place with good jobs but that aren't so expensive to live that all your money will go to rent and transportation leaving a pittance for living.

The most important thing though is to pay yourself first. Most people go through life and they pay their bills, rent, mortgage and whatever little they have left, they blow on useless crap.

The day you start working, try to put away 10% of your net take-home and put it in a high yield savings account or better yet, open a 401K with a reputable investment vehicle. Hang out on the early retirement subreddits for some good advice. The trick is to learn to live with what's left. In other words

Get a credit card, but always pay off the principal. Use it to build up a credit history but never ever NOT pay it off in full. Debt is an evil spiral and it's basically a form of slavery. Save up for stuff you want, never buy new if you can avoid it.

Cars are a money pit. You're better off buying a used car than new. Don't be the idiot that buys a brand new car that depreciates 20% the moment it leaves the dealer's lot. A 3 year old returned rental is going to be much better.

Live below your means.

Also, since you're finishing high school -- focus on getting tangible skills, go to trade school if possible -- you'll get the most bang for your buck. Electricians, HVAC, plumbing -- these are all sectors of activities that are in high demand where regardless of how the economy goes, there's always going to be a need. Heavy Equipment mechanics for instance are very rare and are very well paid. The best thing about these jobs is that there's almost no women occupying them.

Any job with the 4 D's are like kryptonite to women -- Physically Demanding, Dirty, Difficult or Dangerous.

You could always go into IT or computer work without necessarily getting a degree. There's so much knowledge out there, you could go to a Dev bootcamp for instance and get kickstarted rapidly into that type of work but beware that currently the market is kinda getting saturated for that kind of work. And most of the good jobs are in high cost of living areas.

Better yet, do both. If you got a good back, good hands and brains ... why not?

You didn't say where you live.

That's very important.

50-60K in Kansas City, or much of flyover country is pretty good. You can live a solid middle class life.

50-60K in NYC, you're living in ghetto part of town because you can't afford a good place to live.

50-60K in Silicon Valley, you're living in your car.

Basically speaking, the coasts are hyper expensive and flyover country is ok.

No kids not in an expensive area- you'll be fine with 50k. You can always earn more with side hustles/advancements. Once you hit the 70k range anything more you make doesn't really make you happier. There have been studies on this. Money doesn't make you happy. Being poor makes you miserable though so just focus on not being poor- and at 50-60k you're already not poor so you're in good shape!

Assuming no debt, good habits, and not in New York, Vancouver, or San Francisco you're living better than most Americans.

You'll have a place to live, food, insurance, and a car. With money left over to shop or go out.

If you make 50k, your take home after tax deduction would be 38k. Spend responsibly and you'd save enough for retirement. Rent, don't buy. Cook meals at home, don't eat out too much. Live a minimalist lifestyle, and don't involve a woman.

50-60k is a lot for a single guy. You can easily save 50% of your income and invest it. Put half in your retirement account and half just in a taxable brokerage. VTSAX. Read “The Simple Path to Wealth”. By the time your 40 you will have $1mil easily. You can choose to retire, or wait 10 years and have twice as much. Then you can drive whatever you want.

Well I live in Sydney formerly living in NYC. I'm on around 200k a year and life is relatively easy. However when I was doing my internships overseas I was earning about 40-50k per anum and I managed to live in an apartment in Singapore going out to eat once in a while and taking public transport. Similar lifestyle when I did my exchange years in the UK where I lived in an apartment just outside campus waiting out once a week and overall living on about 100 bucks a week. It all depends where you are living.

At 50k you can afford everything but a thot. And why would you want one of those?

How much of that do you keep though? Because if that's your salary you keep 20k, perhaps 25k. And opportunity costs reduce that further.
