Also, I don’t know the financial situation of your boyfriend. My husband was quite well off and NEVER bought me anything when we dated. I kept my mouth shut and just remained thankful for all the things he provided that didn’t seem “gifty.” The gifts didn’t come until I was engaged and then after marriage more lavished gifts like car, grand piano, designer fashion then came. I think he was testing me to see what I was in the relationship for.

Read The Five Love Languages (or even just Google what they are) and realize what he already does to show you he loves you. He doesn't need to give you material things. You sound greedy in your post and you'll sound greedy if you ask him to buy you more gifts, even "indirectly." He may just decide not to do any of those things anymore.

My husband doesn’t buy me anything unless it’s a special day like valentine, birthday, anniversary, Christmas. All the other days, no gifts. My husband pays for everything already. Maybe you should treat him?

I'm amazed he's paying your rent at 5 months or let you move in for free this early, honestly! Five months without flowers isn't really enough time to bemoan a lack of them - let him give them to you on your one year anniversary!

There is a great book about "the love languages". Look it up. It seems like he's an "acts of service" type, and you're a "gift-giving" type. Let him know how you perceive expressions of love, learn how he does, and you will be able to understand each other much better. Try to adapt your love modality to his, and request that he try to adapt his to yours. Also understand that he is financially supporting you already, so gift-giving may not be something he can do too often.

Basically, just straight-up tell him that getting small gifts means the world to you, and figure out what you can do that means the world to him.
