I understand what you’re saying. The Audrey Hepburn style has been adopted by a lot of “hipster” folks who are anything but traditional when it comes to relationships. I see a lot of guys with suspenders, handlebar mustaches, and slicked back hair who are also more feminine, agreeable, and submissive. I think they’ve been labeled “nu males” by some internet groups.

It’s hard because they dress like they’re traditional...but they aren’t. So it’s easy to get confused and assume you’re dating a classic gentleman when actually you’re dating a guy who will lecture you about internalized misogyny if you mention wanting to be a SAHM.

I think your style sounds great. Nothing wrong with it. But a lot of people might assume you’re “alternative” or “hipster” when you actually are a traditional woman.

Femininity is in my opinion, firstly about being attractive/healthy. Though attractive/healthy applies to men too as it is universal, it has some different aspects. Secondly, being warmly kind & nurturing. Thirdly, submissive and agreeable...which doesn't mean a victim or slave. Simply that you trust your man/leader enough to be happy with his choice of direction while feeling that he hears/considers your input as valuable but also understanding his path & that of the family you're building together isn't beholden to your every whim.

Now you seem to be asking more about style. Here really any of the classical looks can work. You don't have to be in sun dresses with flower patterns, hell Anya Taylor-joy in the queens gambit still seems very feminine and reserved (style wise) while having a bit of edge to her style.

I'd say the golden rule is to maintain 50% or more of your look as soft/delicate. Rest can be the edgy side to the degree & type you like. You should however, avoid slutty, instead aim for sultry. I'll explain what I mean. Men tend to speak in a very direct manner, being slutty is like that...matter fact, puts the goods on display, no mystery. Less fun, which is why women prefer men who can flirt with innuendo, and indirect teasing conversation. Women tend to speak indirectly, having a sultry edge to your style is like that...it carries mysterious intrigue with it. Now can both get attention yes, but slutty is like that book you read once where as sultry is the favorite tale that draws you back to it again & again. Modern women have gotten so mislead & lost that they communicate in "slut" now with their style because they have adopted masculine traits and forgotten the strength of their femininity.

I'm in my 30s, and I can tell you that feminity is a mindset and not just a look. I understand there is a lot of activity based upon clothes and appearance - and as another commenter said, RPW is about looking put together and healthy which in turn is attractive to high value men. You definitely want to be attractive to your partner and you should also have the self respect to want to be healthy and put together for your self.

Now, if you are looking for a style. I totally get it! When I was broke and in my 20s, I had a very indie eclectic (read:thrift store) style - but it was usually quite feminine. As I've gotten older, I've aged into a very classic preppy look (read: anything J. crew). I'm also a very practical woman. My personal day-to-day uniform is very often a fun printed button up or fitted striped tee, jeans with belt at my waist, cute flats or sandals, and a little neckerchief. I can't be prancing around in floral dress all the time due to the nature of my work. My hair is always tidy, and I'll throw on eye liner, mascara, and lip stick. This look shows off my womanly figure, is comfortable, and still very feminine. I do dress more feminine when I get the opportunity. But my partner also just likes me to be comfortable, so yoga pants and cardigan curled up with him... Great! All that to say.... Be feminine how you want! Sounds like ModCloth is gonna be your jam! You can be Indie and have a feminine style. Just make sure you are vetting these indie guys.

If I was single, I'd be focused on playing up my feminine mindset (softness, kindness, good steward of money, empathy, slow to anger, etc) and finding a man who can be a provider and appreciate what I bring to the table as a woman. If you find the Indie men in this liberal area aren't high value enough, time to look outside that group or maybe move to a more conservative area. Or go for men who are actually rugged, lots of men in my area work physically demanding jobs and have that lumberjack look. But they are usually more conservative!

There's a lot to unpack in your post. But to answer your question, yes. Femininity pertains to feminine characteristics, not just the general aesthetic. We're currently living the cottagecore trend, which I personally loved but am actually getting tired of—it's all over IG.

Great resources on femininity or 'how to be a lady' give advice on how you carry yourself and treat others without getting specific on which styles you should be exuding. Mrs. Midwest has a great playlist on YT focussing on general femininity.
