I just had a conversation with a buddy of mine. He is in a relationship for quite awhile. He just moved to the city and rented an appartment with is his girlfriend (he mabye living there for about a year). Now the girlfriend is pushing to go buy a house in the suburbs. Ofcourse this is very expensive. Luckly my buddy has a backbone so he told her that this will only happen in a couple of years (no childeren yet so he want to enjoy his time in the city). They both have good job and have been working for quite awhile. My friend is not really struggeling financially, but he is not really saving alot, explaining that the vactions, the date's, the city trips, the buy of useless stuff for the appartment all ads up. His girlfriend does pay her share though so that is good I guess.

Me on the other hand have been single for aslong as I can remember. I'm now working at my job for about 2.5 years. Its not a very well paying job (average pay in my country). But I do enjoy it, also I can do it quite easily so there is not alot of stress involved. Also since I do not really have to worry about getting fired or losing said job (I'm in a field I can easly find new employment), I feel like the grind of a career is not really something that brings me alot of anxiety and touble. In the ammount of time I've been working I have save up around €25K, also did some small invesments. I live quite frugral, I dont mind spending money on stuff I enjoy, however I do not really care for going out to dinner, when I can cook for myself, I can just go for a run instead of paying for expensive workout classes. On holidays I'm quite content being home and doing fun stuff, and if I want to travel I pick my own budget and plans. I never thought it would be so easy being financially stable, in my mind its not about how much you make necessarily but how much you do not spend. And since I'm not in the buisness of tyring to impress women, I dont have to go out to clubs or dinner to impress them, where fancy clothes, have a nice car, have a nice appartment, ect. I always knew that being in a relationship was straining and you will lose alot of freedom, but the financial impact is also something major that I did not realise.
