A coworker (woman) went behind my back and convinced my boss to get me to do her job... how can I put an end to this?

Next time she bugs you for help "I don't really remember too well since it's been a while, you'll have to do some debugging and see what the code is doing." then move on to your own work.

Keep varying up the excuse and try to get her to solve the problems on her own.

Start looking for other employment options. You've made your boss aware of her shortcomings and he's done nothing to address it. You're better off taking your talents elsewhere and letting that ship sink.

2 minute verbal consultant. It brings you in line with being a 'team orientated' person by helping out your co-workers, but your ambitious to see through your new projects and knows how to time-manage.

Anything outside of a quick verbal consultation requires a written request with a detailed explanation of the issue, preferably with the boss cc'd. This way there's a paper trail for a variety of different reasons. Most notably when it comes time to haggle for another raise.

That becomes your only response to every and any request to help.

Go back to your boss and say, politely, "This is confusing the client, boss, and may make the client unhappy. I am not involved anymore. By having me go to meetings, the client may think I am. We need to stop confusing the client, boss. More generally, I want no part of doing other people's work. She needs to handle this account, not me. So let her handle the account."

The boss thinks (s)he is just keeping the customer happy. But it is YOUR job to protect YOUR schedule. That includes making sure the boss does not load your work schedule with non-productive, wasted time.

Whenever she asks for help, go limp and say, "Yeah, it has been too long; I don't remember what to do about that. Good luck." Follow up with an email saying "As I said, I don't recall, but when you get back to work on fixing your issue, if she looks over yonder, that might help her. Good luck!" That way you have a record of not agreeing to do the work for her.

No man, you have to get her fired. Start pretend to be nice to he, keep her happy so she'd trust you, then one day tell her that you heard thru the grapevine that her boss will let her go, because they think she's incompetent and has never turned in good work. When you deliver the bad news, be as sympathetic as possible. When she ask how to improve, just say you don't know. You want her imagination do all the work for you, so she can associate her boss with all her negative emotions.

My Father has a saying "Home have". Meaning when you show someone that they can fuck up and still pull up by you knowing that you'll help, you'll always be their safe haven. In other words you're her orbiter.

Just don't help, when she comes asking for help just say that you don't have time. You caused this. The first time she came to you for help you should have ended it there.

In this same situation myself bro shit sucks. Truth is she has had time and she is too dumb to do it. From your boss perspective he would rather waste some of your time then lose out on a client so you are pretty much screwed. Maybe tell your boss you don't think she can handle it and transition to someone more capable?

Make sure the boss knows the real deal. Bosses don't really care that much who does what, just that stuff that needs to get done gets done. Meetings with clients are important so think of it as demonstrating your value.

You would get promoted over her if he's a competent boss.

I'm not too keen on the "look for a new job" advice because you may not be able to run away from this in any large org.

It's a blessing in disguise. Trust me , you want to be the guy people go to. It's almost like she is increasing your rank by telling her boss to include you. Do it happily and put effort into it. Maybe she'll learn a lesson but who gives a fuck? The bottom line is you are the dude to come to when you have a question about the project. Fuck it's a project you started even.

Consider having a conversation with your boss about this. Suggest that the whole project be handed back to you since she is struggling to assume ownership of it (if you don't mind working on it) or that you be labeled as "off limits" when it comes to this particular project so she's forced to learn it (and she either does or your boss realizes she's incapable of assuming ownership and gives it to someone more capable).

I've been in a similar situation and it took me getting two directors involved for the co-worker to get the hint. He was so bad the company brought the consultant I was hired to replace back to work with this guy (and be still doesn't know what he's doing).

I would tell the boss straight up that's the end of that.

I'm paid to work and that's not my work, that's her work.

Pay me her salary on top of mine and we're OK to do this again or we're done.

Be ready to quit.
