I had the day off for an early morning appointment. Climbed one of the trees on my apts' property just to keep active, get my exercise, enjoy the weather etc. I came down and was packing away my gear a little after the time the kids finished online classes for the day and came out to throw sticks at eachother and just, be children.
So everyone is bored, covid has them all cooped up and there I am the most interesting thing they've seen probably in weeks, and I answered questions. It became a little teaching circle QA about trees and bugs and peoples' favorite animals for maybe 15 minuets while I packed away my climbing gear and had some water. I quickly became uncomfortable and made my excuses to leave.
The stare from balconies some of these mothers gave me. Christ, some faith please?

I was in boyscouts, made eagle. My scout masters were good men, most of 'em on the fire dept. I joined and for a while was an asst. scout master too and I had the same shit there. 'Which kid is yours?' I was 19 and had just aged out, had just been the SPL 6 months ago. Camping, making sure the crossovers stayed in and stayed interested was important to me. Moms who never even came inside to meetings, just sat in their cars and played candy crush for the hour just - Ugh these assumptions and accusations. I've got dad energy okay, I'm sorry you've alienated your husband from active participation in his childs' life but yeah, fathers do love kids and want to raise them. Fear mongering.

This assumption that any man interacting with a child is a pedophile is just. It's so nauseating. I do not look forward to taking my daughter to a park and having to defend myself from the baseless accusations of these PTA moms.
