I’m pretty sure a lot of the words with man have to do with the Latin root of Mano/Mani meaning hand or also can mean tool.. suppose it depends where it is located in the word.
Edit just to give you an example:
Manuscript: to write by hand Manual: to do by hand Manufacture: to create by hand (that that’s been more transformed lately) Manicure: hopefully I shouldn’t have to explain this.. Even manipulate is to control by hand which makes the op more ironic because the woman is clearly lacking a general understanding of language..
