Patriarchy is one of the worst systems out there. I'm not a feminist or anything, I'm far from it. But patriarchy is not a system in favor of men, it's a system dependent on men (there's a difference). All the pressures, from family and even society, fall upon you.

Imagine it like you're a captain of a ship. If you don't know how to handle things, you will sink the ship and all blame will fall on you. Men are expected to do most things.

  • In my country, there's a big focus on gender roles. Men and women are assigned different roles. Man showing emotions is really taboo and only acceptable if someone you're close to dies.
  • Unlike in western countries, I can't get mental help. Even sharing it with others can have a 50/50 chance of getting laughed at. I have never shared my problems with anyone.
  • Men are expected to do everything. Arranged marriage is really common. All the burden goes on men to provide for their families. In most cases women become housewives.
  • Even the type of careers are assigned to men throughout their lifetime. Men are expected to become Doctors or Engineers or work in any high paying job to provide for their family. Which makes sense based on the previous point.

I'm from a middle-class family and all the things I've mentioned above apply to me.

I don't know what I'm trying to achieve from this post. I just wanted to share it somewhere. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
