I’m a surgeon in NYC and this just boils my blood. The comments are infuriating. The problem is it echoes my experience in both residency and as a practicing surgeon.

What are your observations about this? I see in the comments there that some people seem to be blaming it on women getting a harder time, etc. Do you observe this is true?

This is basically the situation in engineering, too. They say there's a a "pipeline problem" with only ~35% of engineering students being women, but after two years of working, almost half of all women end up leaving engineering positions -- and more trickle off later. Some of them move into management/administration, since they are preferred for these roles (any role, really), and some of them quit the industry entirely. A lot of people are suggesting the solution is more part time work, which isn't really a thing in engineering.

I notice there is a huge differential in men's and women's working styles in general. It's taboo to remark on it, but women get special unspoken privileges when it comes to working less and doing different (easier) tasks, coming in late, leaving on time (or early) and time off work in general. They can talk all they want about how hard it is and how women are treated poorly, but this is not what I observe at all.

It's because it's all about the status. And once they've achieved that, there's nowhere else to go. Six years seems to be the amount of time you would figure on the status wearing thin, where it just becomes a job after that. And since they've likely made some money during that time, they can easily just walk away. It's just checking a box for them.

I did my surgical residency in a very um 'woke' program, let's just say that. Finished recently. Won't give any more details. The leadership was all female, and about half the residents. The leadership was great -- strong surgeons, amazing research etc. EXCEPT for the double standards. They held the female residents to lower standards and blatantly treated them better in ways that were clear ACGME violations -- more time off, for example. The female residents, for the most part, weren't up to working the long hours or putting in the work, especially after they had children. No difference in intelligence or skill whatsoever -- just Interest. They weren't as interested in being the best surgeon they can be, because of the hours that would take. And we'd have to hear constantly about 'male patriarchial oppression' etc etc etc. I got out and don't look back.

Not only in medicine.As soon as they married or gave birth they disappear from working full time or at all.Especially educated ones.Women have choices, men don't.

correct me if im wrong but apparently the barriers to entry for medical school are alot lower than they once were. i dont doubt that their are smart women out there but if the standards were what they used to be i doubt many women would get in. btw, this girl is a fucking JAP that morped into a JAQ (Jewish American Queen)
