I am a 26 year old female and I work in a large building. I have known a gentleman who works in the same building (different company) for about four months in a limited professional context. He asked me out yesterday to dinner and I had not considered him romantically at all, and was a little taken aback, but accepted his invitation mostly out of not knowing what else to say.

I am willing to go through with the date - but don't know if it would be better to rescind my acceptance or to go on the date, pay my way and then say I think it's better for us to have a professional relationship only?

EDIT: Simplified - I accepted a date for next weekend with someone I know professionally, but am not romantically interested in. Would it be more polite to: A: Go on the date, split any costs, then say there was no romantic interest or; B: Should I not waste his time and just tell him tomorrow that "I think we should just keep it professional"?

EDIT 2: You gals are awesome. Thank you so much! Now, dare I say, I am almost looking forward to it. :) Sorry for being so silly, I'm new to the whole dating thing so I over-analyze everything about it. :)
