DnD players have been ruining DM's plans since 1974. My favorite was the time that I was running a campaign where the players were based out of an airship and the boss battle involved mind flayers and their minions. When the PCs saw the mind flayers, instead of fighting them, they went back to the airship and blew up the mind flayer stronghold with the airship.

An army of wolves sounds great until you realise the logistics involved.

Also by the very definition, they didn't take over anything, did they use the wolves to take over the town? No.

D&D or pathfinder isn't about quantity anyway, you could have a hundred wolves, one dragon takes them out though, call me when they negotiate with a tribe of Minotaurs or something actually difficult, not level 1 accomplishments.

The insane part of this to me is how he even acts like this is special let alone gender tied. I also suspect that he wasn't really following the rules right and didn't make them run handle animal checks and such to make it balanced with gameplay.

Don't get me wrong, I've had players do shit like that constantly. It's part of the fun of DnD. The thing is, if it was well done, the story would have had much more impact. There would have been complications the players adapted around. There would have been consequences. There would have been so much depth to the story, and speaking as a DM, we never cut out that part of the story because it makes it more real.

This just seems like woke virtue signalling with an undercurrent of misandry thinking that dude's playing DnD don't do the exact same kinds of things.

Hell, the story from a good DM would actually make the taming of the wolves be a problem to make them really earn the power of having a pack of wolves. Maybe it pissed off the villagers because they wanted the wolves dead as revenge for killing a child. Maybe the wolves are voracious and are outcompeting the villagers for food leading to famine. Maybe they just do something, anything to make it more complected that girl power friendship over fighting. That's how you get a good story going.

Even when I've DMd for elementary schoolers, they like those kinds of stories because it gives them struggles to think through and overcome. It makes them feel they earned their agency and rewards for the use of it. They like feeling like they made me give them what they wanted rather than they can just ask and get it.

If it were me, I would have made them roll dice, if they roll higher than 10 then it works and the wolves are controlled, if they roll lower than 10, the wolves get angrier and turn on them.

This is how you DM, take notes.
