Both are vital. It's too politically incorrect for mainstream voices to admit it, but women abandoning their gender role on masse has been disastrous for society and themselves and us. The difference between the female role of mother and nurturer, and the male role of provider and protector, is that women abandoning their role destabilizes and destroys a society over the course of several generations due to anemic birth rates and delinquent children who can't or won't make something of themselves, while men abandoning our role would destabilize and destroy a society in a heartbeat. You can't have high civilization without both sexes fulfilling their obligations to each other and the system, but the difference is how quickly the collapse would be brought on.
The progressive idea of "liberation" from gender roles remains ludicrous at the present time. What kind of victory is women being "liberated" from men? What kind of victory would men being "liberated" from women be? We need each other, and I'd like to believe that we want each other, but sometimes it can be hard to remain optimistic sadly. Unfortunately we men are starved for appreciation at the present moment. Not just in the general culture which denigrates us and never acknowledges our sacrifices and the necessary work we do, but also it feels like many women have this attitude in our interpersonal relationships. "The future is female". There is no future for the culture that believes this. That society will die over time, and indeed, it is.
