I once made a young man cry by simply complimenting him. It happens very rarely for many of us.

And then we see women complaining that they are phyically admired so much, or getting offended that their outfit was complimented, or whatever. And we're supposed to totally understand. But they aren't.

We are often starved for positive attention. Please be kinder to men.

In 8th grade a girl told me red was a good color on me and from that point through the end of high school I made it a point to wear a lot of red.

Happened to me twice in my life, both freshman year of college and both very vivid memories. Once when a girl complemented my jacket in the dining hall and once when a different girl complimented my shoes in an elevator. Can’t say I wasn’t interested to begin with, but I definitely was after even though they never saw it that way. Quite a few years later now and nothing since.

That's the problem I had to stop complimenting guys at work because it was taken as me be interested in them and caused issues.

It really sucks because I could tell they really appreciated little compliments about new outfits, haircuts, weight loss. Things like that, I could tell not a single person must have said something to them.

So if you where a woman what would you do? I can't change how society does things and I don't want to create these misunderstandings. What better option then to just keep the compliments to a minimum.

The fucked up thing is that I have vivid memories of what happened in the past when it came to some compliments. I feel as if they happened not so long ago even though some happened over 5 years ago.

Yet some people get showered in compliments and start scratching their heads when they hear I consider that as being special treatment.

It happens so rarely, that whenever I get a compliment (from either gender) I assume they either want something from me ("what's the scam") or that it's a fake compliment (meaning they're making fun of me - you know like saying "nice X" about something when it actually looks like shit)

I was bullied growing up a lot because of my appearance. Both girls and guys would feed me fake compliments and then laugh about it when they thought I wasn't looking. Fast forward 20 plus years and I'm still weary about receiving compliments because of that. I look a lot better now than I did in school and I know the compliments are genuine nowadays but that doubt always lingers.

Bullying can have long lasting effects on people.

The opposite of this is you saying "thank so much" but are internally trying to figure out their angle for complimenting you. Is she using you as a bait dog to get the one she wants into her? Is she performing for friends? Is she a prostitute? What's the long con here, what is she trying to get you involved in. How is she manipulating you that you are not aware of? What trickery is this?

One girl I knew at university always told me I smelt nice, in the sort of way where it wasn't just a pleasant compliment to make conversation, rather it was an admission of guilt that she couldn't hold back any longer, "not to be weird, but you smell REALLY nice, like, wow" - she wasn't my type, and I don't think I was her type either, but damn if I don't think about those compliments every day half a decade on.

I'm not "starved" but every time somebody compliments me it feels weird and creepy, and immediately I think he/she wants to manipulate me, and I'm usually correct.

The other time girls compliment me is when they say my cock is too big for the ass, and that's both a lie and a manipulation attempt.

I dont want to sound like a dick, don’t worry, I’m balding, 33 and overweight, but I’m wondering what we’re all doing so differently. My cologne gets complements weekly, my job too; not ME Me. Like occasionally my watch, clothes, laugh; but it’s usually just peripheral things. But still, even other guys will complement me. And I live in asshole central south Florida. I winder if it’s a posture, appearance thing. Went to chicago and random guys and girls stopped me to complement me. Not here pandering for an ego boost, but I’m again, a balding heavier guy. I winder why. My best guess would be that I’m not so terribly attractive that I’m not threatening to anybody.

Why does it even matter? The guys who are starved for an attention by a female are weak simps. It is their fault for depending on their enemy so much that ignorance actually hurts them. This only gives females more power over the males because of so many simps. Damn it.
