In Finland in a similar study, it turned out that men were discriminated against in female-dominated job markets but treated equally in male-dominated ones.

This study found that at a selected sample of female stereotyped workplaces (waitstaff, data-entry, customer service, and sales) there was discrimination against men in terms of job application call backs, in female dominated jobs. From the article it appears this is a non-representative sample of selected sites in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney (Australia's major cities), in jobs considered stereotyped for female employment; the definition of what constituted a "female stereotyped" job was not discussed. Given women are now the majority of teachers, doctors and scientists in our community (these jobs were not considered), it's hard to take this study seriously.

Gender preference was not consistent between job types, with more female stereotyped jobs showing more discrimination against men, and less female stereotyped jobs showing less discrimination against men.

Testing whether using a female first contact person was related to discrimination against men showed a numerical relationship between female contact persons and discrimiation that was not statistically significant. The authors dismissed this, ignoring the effect of small sample size on statistical significance.

What does the study say in a nut shell? First off, ignore the sexist agenda laden assumptions of the left wing, equity feminist authors. They are suggesting that women are the victims here due to stereotyping into lower paid jobs, and that discrimination against men is realy just discrimination against women in disguise.

For female dominated professions and jobs, particularly those with female first contact persons, there is substantial discrimination against male applicants. As the job or profession is more female dominated, the discrimination is more pronounced. Women tend to discriminate in favour of female, and against male applicants.
