If you put a man's penis in your vagina, mouth, or butt it counts. A lot of women don't understand this and don't think blow jobs are a big deal.

If you pleasure a man's penis with your mouth and gloss over it like its not a big deal because you only think PIV is "sacred" a man will plate you. Imagine a woman sucking a guy off and having him ejaculate all over her mouth and face, but then getting all weird and uncomfortable that he wants to put his penis in her vagina.. I'd say heavy petting down doesn't count, when we get from nude interactions upwards it does. Anything where the goal is orgasm is definitely an N. Naive exploration versus actual sex, essentially. So a boy feeling up a girl's chest in high school or "show me yours I'll show you mine" wouldn't be an N, but as soon as there is naked or intimate skin-skin interaction or orgasm, it's a definite N.

I would also add the caveat that things done whilst very young may carry less weight than if you did them as an adult. Kids grope each other all the time and we hardly start counting Ns from age four, but if your partner groped someone tomorrow you would not say "well, it isn't exactly sexual". Thirteen year olds swapping pictures or flashes is hard to take seriously, but the same behaviour from a twenty five year old implies some degree of sexual intimacy. Evaluate.

Whether you go with 2 or 4, I wouldn't overly worry about it. I have never had a lover ask me how many previous partners I've had, and I've never kept track of it myself. I was actually surprised, when I started reading these forums, that it seems to be such a big deal to the RP folks. Of course when you're my age, it's kind of a foregone conclusion that no one is a virgin anymore, lol.

Edited to add: the simplest way to deflect a question that you're not comfortable answering is to turn it around, i.e., "Why do you ask?" Then keep asking questions to draw them out on their feelings on the subject. Or come up with a humorous reply: "A lady never kisses and tells," or "Enough to know what I like!" (That would be my pick, lol.)

I'd say it depends on who you ask. Some would say PIV sex would count towards N-Count yet dismiss foreplay or oral as something that wouldn't count. Others would consider any sort of intimacy with another person as a +1 in their N-Count.

It essentially boils down to wherever the individual person you're asking the question to draws the line.

Anything that involves the sexual penetration of another. i.e. kissing is excluded but oral sex is included.

imo it means PIV sex. anything else would create grey areas where people aren't sure what to count and harder to remember things that happened a long time ago. it's pretty clear cut when you just make it PIV. Unless you are a total slut you should be able to remember how many people you've had sex with.
