The more interesting aspect of the case hasn't been decided. Namely, that access to the fertility treatment clinic was reserved for women by law, as the judge notes, "it is concerning that despite the fact the clinic routinely acknowledged TT was a man, they allowed him to access the clinic anyway.".

I suspect they're throwing this out there in he hope TT goes away and doesn't press the matter, because if he does, the government will be forced to make a decision on whether the above law is sexist or transphobic, or perfectly fine.

If they decide it's perfectly fine to deny men access to the clinic, TT is on the hook for the cost of the treatment (Or the clinic might be punished) and may face legal action, which is terrible optics for the government. So they're basically left with either the choice of looking awful, or rolling back a female privilege. Throwing out the "You can be a mother, it's fine." is a "Fuck off and drop your case because we don't want to have to closely examine it and make that decision.".

Reminds me of an old joke.

Guy goes to prison and ends up with a cave bear of a cellie. The cellmate is mean, huge, tattooed, and generally unhappy. The guy is scared, but the cellmate says nothing for days. He just sits on his bunk glaring at him.

That's pretty much what being a man listed as a mother is like. Why would he even want to change it? We already know that mothers have better parental rights.
