So the recipient will not have to pay the tax, and even though alimony obligations do not take into account the living situation of the person paying, only their gross income, the person paying this money out cannot deduct it from their taxable income. If you make $70k gross and $30k of that is going right out the window to alimony you will still pay tax on every cent and then have to live off of whatever is left less child support and taxes on the rest of your income. Even in Canada, where divorce laws are frankly insane, particularly in Ontario, you can still deduct your spousal support payments from your income before it's taxed. Only the recipient pays tax on that income.

I guess the suicide rate for men is going rise again and society is still not gonna care. I don’t necessarily want to be Mgtow but the costs/benefits for marriage is too much. Hell even if the army offered more BAH for marriage I still won’t marry, most married guys in my unit got divorced last year in our deployment. Some bad some really bad. I miss my friends, Afghanistan didn’t kill them, their wives did.

I don't understand alimony, it's a law centred around the belief women are too weak to work, or too inept to. I don't see why more feminists don't talk about it.

Yep, and recipients of alimony no longer have to report it as income. But it only concerns divorces that are executed after December 31, 2018. Can't really blame women either. It's the retards on top that are fucking everyone else over.

Alimony payments made pursuant to divorce or separation agreements executed before December 31, 2018 will continue to receive the pre-2017 Act tax treatment.

it seems courts determining alimony payment amounts have been taking tax laws into account, with one idea being the Feds get as little as possible from the two combined. Presumably courts will continue to to this, but to less effect; the feds will get a slightly more; but it will not ALL be out of the new alimony payers pocket.

To clarify, this only relates to divorces that are final after 12/31/2018.

From the article: “The repeal of the alimony deduction is effective for separation and divorce instruments executed after December 31, 2018.”

FALSE & misleading headline.

Only applies to NEW divorces from Jan 1, 2019 onward... anyone paying alimony under a divorce that was finalized prior to that, can still deduct them (and the recipient will still be taxed on them).

The headline & beginning of the article are (arguably intentionally) "scaremongering" and at least "click-baity"... the article itself notes (buried in themiddle of the text) that:

As of January 1, 2019, alimony payments, previously deductible under IRC §215, will no longer be deductible for US tax purposes where the separation or divorce instrument was executed after December 31, 2018.

Prior divorces/alimony payments are "grandfathered" in under "old law."
