Hopefully this is the correct place to post this...

Yesterday I visited my pops who lives alongside his girlfriend. We all talked over coffee for a few hours and somehow the topic of alimony came up, and my dads gf mentioned how she still gets it from her ex husband (who she hasn’t been with for like 8 years!! Not to mention she is now in a new relationship, shares income with my dads salary etc)

I know in my rational man mind it’s so clear how unfair this is for this poor guy. But in her mind she absolutely deserved to still collect that check! She justified it bc “trajectory of her career before she had kids”. It’s was like “before I quit my job I was making 40k a year, but bc I HAD to quit and stay home with the kids, I would have been making ATLEAST 100k a year by the time they turned 18”.....

My stomach turned.

Soo...”hypothetically”....you were on pace to make a lot of money?

The courts are paying her according to promotions she never even received.

Why does this seem like a contingency plan for women in the event that a marriage fails? That a man is not afforded? Like “Sure, I can stay home with the kids while he works, but if I’m unhappy and decide to leave this guy (which she left for my dad!) at any time I can always travel back in time and collect the money I left on the table via alimony.

Maybe I’m old school but I’ve never in my life known of a woman who was forced to stay home to watch the kids THEY VOLUNTARILY HAD! why isn’t that seen as just a part of the vulnerability of being of being married? Isn’t it supposed to be about sacrifice? So why are men the only ones gambling with everything to lose?!

If you made it this far thx for reading, my writing can be all over the place but this is just bothers me to know end. Maybe someone can enlighten me? Am I missing something?
