A lot of the current crop of successful women musicians would be uncomfortable with anyone zeroing in on their gender. With good reason, piously opining about such things – particularly if you’re a man – has been serially mocked with the cliched journalistic category of “women in rock”, an idea so hoary that it has its own Wikipedia page.

But he still couldn't help himself.

Pretty sure music is doing fine and people will listen to who they want because they like how they sound rather than what boxes a lineup ticks.

Then again my favourite vocalist is 6'1 Dutch woman that belts out high notes while moshing and wearing various leather get-ups ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What the guy says sounds like a statement from the late 80s. Handmade music is usually self-expression. We all feel sometimes powerful and sometimes sensitive and a good musucian isn't afraid to show it. There's much more image-driven stuff going on in EDM.
