Umm...suspended? Why wasn't she fired? What the hell is going on here!? :( How long are we going to tolerate this sexual predator preying on her male students -- tarantula like?

The whole case is a summary of feminism in a nut shell.

Apart from all the other daming things about this, NYU has had a policy specifically prohibiting an intimate relationship between "A faculty member and a graduate student in the same discipline or academic program" and " Although it is recognized that the student or subordinate may be a full and willing participant in an Intimate Relationship, both the responsibility for adhering to this policy and the consequences for violating it fall upon the person in a position of power or authority, rather than the student or subordinate. "

The professor has stated that she had an intimate relationship with her graduate student because in her defence she claimed it was consensual.

Anyone think that a male professor would still have his job if he violated this policy?

It might have all died away if it were not for the letter from 50 other prominent feminists in a gross act of hypocrisy.

Now there is some speculation that NYU might be seeking for a way to arrange an early retirement for Avital Ronell.

The reality is that these 50 feminist professors have exposed their own hypocrisy and damned themselves.

EDIT: When I wrote that out, I laughed out loud, I mean no one could be that stupid right, especially highly educated people and yet that is exactly what a lot of these professors are saying.

Imagine the outcry if 50 Hollywood producers wrote such a letter in defence of Harvey Weinstein.

If a man had done this - even if you only look at hard, written evidence - even I would have found suspension reasonable and the behaviour unacceptable.

What strikes me the most is that the arguments her supporters use sound like the parodical, strawman version of people defending an accused and probably guilty male professor.

Perhaps appropriate, as the things she is accused of sound equally parodical. Even Weinstein had more sense than to write e-mails like that, I suspect.
