Can anybody who speaks French read the raw data?

Honestly this isn't surprising, and not for anything nefarious. Quebec has a real issue with safety when it comes to heat and people over 50 are most susceptible. The rest is just demographics and psychology - men are more likely to be doing physical labor in the heat and also more likely to try and "push through" as opposed to taking a break.

The majority of those who died during the June 30 to July 5 heatwave – the city’s deadliest since 2010 – were men older than 50 who lived alone, according to the preliminary report.

Other risk factors included mental health problems, alcohol and drug dependency, cardiovascular and respiratory conditions and a lack of access to air conditioning.

In fact, none of those who died had air conditioning.

Air conditioning can help? Wow, whoda thought it?

I would think that there are other measures that might help, showers can cool you off and keep you cool as you dry, a spray bottle can help, and a trip to the mall (if possible) during the worst of it can't be a bad idea.

But perhaps a more important point is that these men were likely socially isolated, so no one was checking up on them or giving a call to say hello.

I'm not sure how this is a men's right issue. It's more an issue of self care, or encouraging people to look out for others, particularly the elderly who live alone.

How neglected by society were those men that they died in temps that didn't even reach above body temp?
