"It's taken a bit of time to coach people, to teach people that it's okay to have a space like this for yourself."

Unless you have a penis then you're not allowed to have spaces for yourself.

When men do it it's discrimination, when women do it it's "empowerment". This is the "equality" feminism is fighting for.

And when businesses or institutions do it they're against diversity and doomed to fail. Diversity, after all breeds innovation and all kinds of other good things. But I'm pretty sure the idea is to say that bringing in more women is a good things. Bringing in more men is a bad thing, unless they belong to certain minorities.

A lot of women are really experiencing a world that in many respects was built by men

This world was mostly build by businesses for customers. A typical home is thus build mostly for women (and the men can have a man cave in the garage if they're lucky). Most shops, malls and such are build to appeal to women who buy so much more than men. City plans reflect strongly these things.

Then there are office buildings, all kinds of office buildings. There men may have had more to say but still the idea of an office building to to serve efficiently a purpose, pretty much like factories.

So, apartheid is the solution now?

[–]boringcarpets 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In #currentyear it seems so. I expect to see the return of internment camps soon

As a capitalist I think this is a great little scam they've got going. They're taking real advantage of things and turning a nice little profit. I honestly can't be mad because it's a sweet little hustle.

As the #MeToo and Time's Up movements shine a light on some of the hazards of working while female, coworking hubs for women and people who identify as non-binary are popping up around the country.

You don't know what a hazard is and you don't want to know. Spoiled fucks.

[–]Vwar 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

We care more about women's potential hurt feelings than men's very lives. That isn't hyperbole. Witness the contrast between MeToo and eg the male suicide epidemic, or the workplace fatality rate, or the institutionalized rape of boys in Hollywood (exposed in the film An Open Secret). We are now reaching utterly bizarre heights of hypocrisy.

People can call me insane, and I'm not a genius, but I'm not a total idiot, either. I haven't drunk the kool-aid; I can clearly see an orchestrated agenda. This is a war on men and it's very, very real. It's also really disgusting, too.

[–]Vwar 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

orchestrated agenda

There is no doubt about it. The billionaire class is united in their support for feminism.

[–]AmbitiousPlankton 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm glad you see it too. Sometimes I wonder if there's some satanic feminine cult worship going on with those "elites"...🤔

I don't have very much evidence to support that wild suggestion but my imagination definitely sees the possibility.

Uhhhhhhhhh google the feminist cult in south korea and spirit cooking.

[–]AmbitiousPlankton 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That was a disturbing read.

[–]drunkjake 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

and it was 100% real.

Now google megalia antifreeze and enjoy!

I think possibly the only way left to have a male-only space and get away with it would be to call it a monastery. That is looking like a damned attractive option to me these days.

[–]EricAllonde 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

A couple of Australian guys actually tried to set up a male-only working space for startups.

After making the announcement, they were attacked, shamed and hounded out of the industry entirely within a couple of days.

[–]PeonSupreme 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s getting to the point where you can’t be seen to be doing well. If you try to make something of yourself, someone will tear you down in a jealous rage.

[–]mrstickman 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

...I wonder if that would actually work. Create a male-exclusive social organization, call it a "secular monastery," have plenty of working space "for your community," run on "donations."

[–]PeonSupreme 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Might be worth a try. Just seems like once you actually publicize it, though, the SJWs will start howling about discrimination.

Any male-only communication has to have a kind of samizdat quality to it. To me, that’s a sure sign you’re living under a totalitarian regime.

[–]cld8 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see nothing wrong with segregated workspaces for either gender.

With that said, if they are allowed for one gender, they should be allowed for both.

[–]DepressiveVortex 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It's been done before and it didn't go well.

[–]tenchineuro 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I remember this.

It did not occur to me at the time, but is not this kind of thing illegal in the UK?

[–]DepressiveVortex 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It doesn't make it very clear whether the company, despite doing business in the UK and US, is effected by one or the others laws.

I believe it would be against the law in the UK yes, but you'll find that the CPS and any other places that are supposed to enforce these rules can be very selective.

This is what happens if you try to have a men-only coworking space:

Looking to launch an offensive 'male-only' work space? Well, you better expect to be the butt of some stinging mockery.

https://envato.com/blog/this-all-male-co-working-space-makes-me-ashamed-to-be-a-man-in-tech/

http://www.prowess.org.uk/new-yorks-female-coworking-spaces-thrive-london

Could there be male-only coworking spaces in the pipeline?

With the launch of female-only coworking spaces in New York, could there feasibly be male-only coworking spaces too? Probably not, judging by the reaction to a launch, and subsequent closure, of a male-only space in Australia.

The Brisbane-based operation, Nomadic Thinkers, was promoted to the media as “a space to help men be men”. Nomadic Thinkers were widely criticised, receiving a great deal of criticism and even this hilarious satirical video.

The fact is, men aren’t as likely to suffer harassment in the workplace, and male-only spaces do seem to be an ill-thought out idea that pays no attention to the past, and continuing, struggle of women for workplace equality.

[–]human_not_robot 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Their problem was trying to sell it as something positive for men. Apparently nobody wants anything good for men and only want to see them suffer.

The way to do it would be to spin it as a kind of containment project where all the men were sequestered away with each other in order to protect wammen from toxic masculinity. Women aren't allowed for their own good because, gosh, who knows what kind of harassment and other terrible things they might suffer.

[–]PIG_CUNT 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But the point of The Coven — and most women-centered coworking spaces — isn't to exclude men. It is to create a place that's specifically for women. And many men get that, Steinman says.

is no different than

But the point of The Coven — and most white-centered coworking spaces — isn't to exclude blacks. It is to create a place that's specifically for whites. And many blacks get that, Steinman says.

Vent: I once attended a job interview at what is perhaps the best-known "co-working space" in my town. It was the most horrible work environment I've ever seen. It looked more like a high school cafeteria than a place to get anything done.

Yeah, there's a bar in the foyer. Seriously, do they think I would come in there every day to get soused? Would I want to use the office as a watering hole?

These people drank the Kool-Aid on the whole "open plan office" concept to the point that even the second floor has holes in it down to the first floor, as if people on different floors want to hear each other while they are working.

I get anxiety even thinking about visiting a place like this for an after-work event. The whole place is so over-stimulating, it makes me feel physically sick to try to imagine working there.

If some idiot wants to set up a place like this for women only because they think that the ones that already exist are only suitable for men, let them go right ahead. Why shouldn't women suffer equally with this non-sense???

I hate co-working spaces with a passion, and if I were a woman, I see no reason I would want to work in a ladies-only co-working space.

Take your co-working space and shove it!
