It was 1 & 1/2 hours, first being the panel answering some questions from a moderator, last half hour was them answering questions from the audience.

The panel consisted of a business prof, 2 resident directors (older people who live in and basically run the dorms) and a woman who taught women's history. Their whole discussion basically revolved around demonizing men (white specifically) and how the way we view masculinity needs to change. I found it kind of funny how so much of their discussion (in a talk about men!) revolved around women and women's issues.

Anyway, our time for questions comes and my hand shoots straight up. I ask why they think it's the case that society doesn't seem to want to discuss issues that disproportionately affect men (and how even this discussion, they wanted to talk more about issues affecting women).

Brought up suicide, homelessness, devaluation of male life. They more or less blamed the former 2 on men not being as prone to asking for help, which was probably the first thing they said I agreed with. History prof says that the MRM is a backlash against women and feminism (which I interjected that feminism =/= women), and that people were hesitant to talk about those issues because that would be "aligning with the MRM." I didn't get another chance to ask any more questions, and they never brought up the last issue I mentioned (with Boko Haram as my example if they asked how devaluation of male life was a thing).

Leaving the discussion right now, pretty irritated. But on a better note, after some discussion with the counselling center about the lack of resources for male victims of sexual assault, I'm meeting with someone about becoming a member of the student board. Hopefully that would give me an opportunity to get these issues brought up (specifically male victims of sexual violence).

I'm also thinking of trying to get a viewing of The Red Pill at my school, something I could put up posters for and have a post-viewing discussion.

Last point in this long post; I've been thinking for a while now about how I'd organize a men's group. The main thing I'm unsure of, is how to address the issue without making it out to be anti-feminism. I'm not a feminist, and would probably classify myself as an anti-feminist, but I just don't think being an "anti-group" would go down very well at my school. But at the same time, I just don't know how to talk about these problems without bringing up why I don't think feminism is the answer, or even why it's going as far as hindering any progress.
