Feminism is the movement in support of women's rights. As such I would be (and was) a feminist.

In theory it supports equal rights for men and women, but in practice it too often is unfairly biased against men, for example with the idea of the mythical patriarchy, which unfairly lays blame for society's wrongs squarely at the feet of one gender. It also often denies women agency and infantilizes them.

Because of such practices I can no longer identify as a feminist. Instead I call myself an egalitarian, because I believe in equal rights and opportunities for everyone, regardless of gender, skin colour, etc.

Feminism is vast and sprawling, and it means many things to different people.

It's my belief that the vast majority of people who call themselves feminist are egalitarians who believe feminism is about equality as per the dictionary definition.

I used to come under that category, but I kept seeing real world examples of men being discriminated against, and often the perpetrators were feminists themselves.

I look at feminism as a continuum, from egalitarians like me that wants true equal opportunity for people to pursue their dreams, all the way to the militant mysadrists that hate men and blame everything on the "patriarchy".

Feminism is a movement focused on advocating for women's rights. That's it. It can be egalitarian in its dealings with the issues within its scope but it doesn't have to be, and most frequently isn't.

I wouldn't consider myself a feminist, way too much baggage, but I am more than willing to support feminist initiatives that serve the egalitarian goal of equality for all.

Feminism is a buzzword used by disingenuous charlatans to push personal agendas in a public space.

On paper it may mean some romantic ideal that sensible people should agree with, but in reality "feminist/feminism" is used very similarly to how the words "patriot/patriotism" were being tossed around 15 years back.

Patriots are supposed to be people who serve the greater interests of their country and countrymen, but it was tweaked slightly to be anyone possessing unquestioning loyalty to the actions of government and anyone who gives lip service to a flag.

Feminists are supposed to be interested in equality with perhaps a particular interest in womens' issues, but in reality it is currently a tasteful euphemism for female chauvinism, if not outright female supremacy.

You know how a lot of reasonable people today tend to be embarassed about old photos they have from a "proud to be an American wearing a flag shirt and literally every Muslim is a terrorist" phase? In another year or two, people are going to try to distance themselves from their "this is what a feminist with an ugly haircut and glasses looks like and literally all men are harmful to women" phase, and it will be for the exact same reason.

Today, feminism is a rallying call for hysterically sycophantic hypocrites who have yet to be disillusioned with the harm caused by the lies and narratives spun in the popular media. These are people who will enable oppressive ideas until they hit close to home, and it looks like we've reached the stage where they can't shield themselves from the reality of what they've been advocating.

Feminism is a word that has come to be bereft of any sincere meaning. Feminists are people who want to be judged by words, but deserve to be judged by actions.

A bit of a cringey rant, imo... but I'll leave it anyways.

Feminism is a political ideology, working with patriarchy theory as it's foundation. Almost every issue wraps back around to "the patriarchy".

I'm egalitarian.
