Is the rest of the world finally deciding to care about men getting assaulted in public? 5 years ago no one gave a shit that Justin Bieber was sexually harassed on stage by Jenny McCarthy. Every news station around was getting her to talk about how it was empowering for her. I remember seeing the look of disbelief on his face as he looks out at the crowd who was cheering her on.

Edit: last time this came up I looked up an interview with McCarthy about it and found this

“I kind of molested him,” Jenny continued. “Then I decided to turn his neck around and bite his neck a little bit.”

And Jenny’s accosting didn’t stop with the singer’s neck.

“And then as he turned around I grabbed his butt a little bit,” Jenny continued.

“A cougar fantasy maybe,” she admitted.

On Monday, Pitbull, who appeared on Access Hollywood Live, told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover that he’d welcome some similar attention from the blonde bombshell.

“I wish Jenny McCarthy would have touched me like that,” he quipped."

That was so ewwwww

While I do think. Justin Bieber a cunt, that was sexual assault right there, he should have sued Jenny, send the message that that shit aint okay.

[–]sakura_drop 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The interview snippet is particularly gross.

Not totally related to this, but I remember seeing a clip of a debate on The View when she was on the panel about some couple that had been caught on CCTV in a physical altercation - the woman attacked the guy physically and he retaliated. Whoopi Goldberg was the only one on the panel who dared say (paraphrasing) "We should also teach women it's not okay to hit men because they think they can get away with it" - basically, no one, man or woman, should be putting their hands on anyone - and McCarthy was irate, practically shrieking "No! It is never okay for a man to hit a woman ever!"

The double standards are strong with this one. When you add that to this Bieber thing, fairly easy to discern her mentality.

Is this the same McCarthy brain danger that was so sure vaccines cause autism she dumped a few hundred thousand into making sure parents knew about the "dangers"?

[–]The_Best_01 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

They probably didn't give a shit because he's Justin Bieber.

[–]alaysian 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Except this is back when tens of millions of people DID give a shit about him.

Teen girls aren't really known for their reasoning abilities.

[–]EmberFQ 56 points57 points58 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The 'best' part of this article is how it makes a point of saying men get assaulted too and how it's "not a gendered issue" before closing with a link to a feminist rape-crisis center that refuses men.

[–]SpeaksTruthToPower 28 points29 points30 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I DISTINCTLY remember him being openly laughed at for saying it too. Women jeered him the the most disgusting ways.

[–]Rethgil 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Interesting how few headlines were generated by this event, compared to every single claim made by z list female celebs generating miles of footage, despite the fact the abuse here was caught ON CAMERA, whilst their claims were just allegations....

[–]McFeely_Smackup 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it reminds me of when Iggy Azalea said she stopped crowd surfing and wore tights under her outfits because women were always trying to finger her.

[–]mwobuddy 69 points70 points71 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Correction: its as okay as it would be to do to a woman singer. Unless people want to be unegalitarian.

[–]Valac_ 26 points27 points28 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Wouldn't that also not be ok?

So in both cases it would not be ok and therefore the same. Without the need for correction?

[–]mwobuddy 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It allows the option: its either all okay or none of it is. Let the feminists decide.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lets not and say we didn't

[–]jimbojonesFA 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I agree. It feels as if Op is just adding women into it for the sake of stirring up feelings. Or maybe it's just a poorly worded/backwards way of saying that if it's not okay to do to a female performer it's not okay to do to a male one either, otherwise it would not be very egalitarian of people to support or ignore that behavior.

Either way, this is objectively just not okay, no matter who the victim is.

[–]Rethgil 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What are you actually objecting to? Are you denying there is a double standard in our culture here that the OP clearly points out? Why do you object to it being highlighted ?

[–]jimbojonesFA 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not objecting to anything, why do I have to be objecting to something?

I agreed that op's original comment was basically a redundant argument because it started with "correction" when none was needed. So it seemed to me like they were just making a comment for the sake of rustling jimmies further.

But then I also realized that maybe it was just poorly worded way of trying to point out that a double standard exists (even though that's pretty obvious and half the premise of this post in the first place).

Edit: Also I don't think op is "clearly" pointing that out at all, imo it's a pretty convoluted way of saying that there is a double standard. And no I'm not denying that the double standard exists. It's one of the big ones that annoys the shit out of me because women I don't even know often think its totally acceptable to grab my ass and feel me up and shit at clubs and it angers me that those same types of girls don't see their hypocrisy when they experience the same shit as well.

[–]alansfantasyland 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Reminds me of when I was working at a Shawn Mendes concert and all these underage girls were screaming “take it off” and I am sure as hell if he was within arms reach these kids would have actually tried to take it off for him.

[–]ThatNinaGAL 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

OK, it's official, I am saying "no" to those Shawn Mendes tickets.

[–]NorseGodLoki0411 21 points22 points23 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

This is ridiculous and as usual we're seeing none of the outrage that we'd see if someone grabbed a female singer like this. Shocking.

But to add some levity to this depressing matter, I can't help but post the angry Scottish(?) girl ranting about a blog dedicated to killing Harry Styles:

https://youtu.be/dFnHZfX_Cb8

[–]NebulousASK 19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Aren't we, though? I mean the trending hashtag is RespectHarry, with men and women both broadly condemning the grope as disgusting and wrong. I'm quite heartened by this.

[–]NorseGodLoki0411 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd expect headlines on MSM if a guy reached up and grabbed a handful of titty at a T Swizzle concert. I don't expect to see much of anything from MSM on this...

Edit: went to the BBC and found nothing by browsing. Had to do a search for Harry Styles. Looks like there's a video of it with the incident posed as a question. Contrast that to the guilty until proven innocent stance taken when a guy is simply accused of some sort of sexual harassment. This is video of it happening to a guy and they pose it as a question.

It's just my opinion. I'm not trying to argue and say NO YOU'RE WRONG so don't take it that way. I just don't feel like it's being taken as seriously as it would be were it reversed.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That video is fucking amazing. I need to visit Scotland.

[–]BassCreat0r 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I love listening to angry Scottish people.

[+]duganaok -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Look, I’m going to say the same thing about this situation like I’ve been saying about the Hollywood sexual harassment claims.

This is an oxymoron. You cannot create and be in an industry the sexualizes everything and then get upset when that sexualization goes too far.

Suing people, firing people, yelling at people on Twitter. None of that is going to make any difference. The only way to stop this is to get rid of the industry, and since people want to keep it, it will never go away. It will never stop.

It’s like demanding to be a sex symbol and then complaining once you are one. If you don’t like it, don’t be a sex symbol.

[–]Rethgil 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Post the same thing on a feminist sub then get back to us to show you feel it applies equally.

[–]duganaok 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have about the Weinstein bullshit.

[–]omegaphallic -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My mind and heart say that was fucking weird on McCathy's part, and unprofessional & unethical, but my dick is saying if it was me I'd have said fuck the award and gone and fucked the shit out of McCathy, goddamn Admiral (my penis) is a traitor.

[–]loloLogic 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's had Hep C for like 20 years... I'd pass with no regrets.
