I don't think it would work. Sure, she wouldn't have to take anything from you, but the law is in favor of the women, you wouldn't get shit.

It would depend largely on what state you live in and the quality of your lawyers.

Some states hold divorces to the standard of what the courts feel is equitable. So if you marry into money and divorce a year later, it isn't equitable for them to give you half the shared wealth because you were a starving artist.

Similarly though, were you a starving artist, married into money, became a stay-at-home dad to raise the kids and then 10 years later, she leaves you for some boy toy, the courts in theory would be more favorable to you. You left the work force for a decade, that has very real socio-economic impact. You have a certain right in the eyes of the state- they don't want you becoming another welfare mouth to feed- to enjoy the same quality of life you've enjoyed for the past decade.

Theory and practice are two different animals though, and while the concept of equity is one thing, divorce courts are also a strange place where slander will stand as valid evidence and the woman tends to be able to pull on psychological strings to get a better deal.

Of course if you lived in the South they'd probably tell you to put on your big boy pants and tell you to go cut logs or something for a living.

Looks, this varies wildly between jurisdictions, but the understanding behind the divorce rape is that one partner gave up his potential and quit from pursuing its career TO support the other somehow, usually by taking up all the domestic tasks as well as the responsibility for educating the children.

Around here, if this isn't explicit, it's won't be a rape. So if you gave up from pursuing a career so your valuable spouse could pursue hers while you took care of the house and shit like that, you'd probably be able to get it working the other way. Although rare it's not unheard of, everyone knows a case here.

Funny how it goes without saying that you'd never pull such a scumbag move, yet women do it all the time.

Anyway, consider alternative career pathways if you're struggling to make money. Maybe you should keep art as a hobby.
