The Distribution of Income and Fiscal By Age and Gender study in New Zealand shows women receive more benefits than they pay in taxes, while men pay for it.

Funny how they say it "makes things worse." Because of course hiring people for their professional merit is "worse" than hiring people simply because they're female (AKA sexism)

Any sort of meritocracy is the worst possible situation for anyone obsessed with "diversity".

You can see this in swathes of feminist 'research' and otherwise feminist 'discussion' and 'journalism', and it's now unfortunately crept into some mainstream thought.

The assumptions going in are always that women are oppressed, and need more power, and and and. These are never questioned. The only thing that matters is whether the results are 'good' for the identity group 'women', where 'good' means some single variable like average pay, average employed, average CEOs, and so forth. Whether it's actually good when all variables are considered for this identity group as a whole, and more importantly members of this identity group as individuals, is neither here nor there.

There's a famous academic sexism test that has been run for a few decades to measure 'sexism'. Only against women, of course (another of feminism's great intentional tricks of deception). One of the questions to measure misogyny is whether or not you are a proponent of feminism - with you being scored as a misogynist if you're not. It's cultish.

If the results were reversed, you can bet they would be demanding gender blind recruitment be made into law.

Oh yea, and for the sake of "diversity" they have to discriminate.

I've worked in IT for 20 years, and it's been policy in almost every company I've worked for that female applicants for tech jobs get phone screened at a minimum, and if we don't refer them for in person interview, HR wants to know why.

Meanwhile 100 male resumes go in the trash because they only include 9 out of 10 of the "keywords" identified for the job listing.

So in my industry at least, this is 100% bullshit. Because a Female applicant is probably 20 times (so about 2000%) more likely to get at least a preliminary interview than any male applicant.

Jesus, that's ridiculous...

[–]ICantReadThis 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

One thing I did learn about tech fields is that in the grand-ass majority of cases, someone with a shred of technical knowledge isn't reading your resume. As such, your skills need to match, point for point, what's on the listing. Maybe re-order them so it doesn't look like a copy-paste job, but anything short of 100% might as well be 0%.

"This project shows the status quo at the moment is to be supportive of hiring more women in the public service."

Fucking stop blaming men for "patriarchy" plxkthx.

Brought his up as an interesting topic with my GF and she claimed that while this study showed women were more likely to be interviewed, they were not more likely to be hired and that in competing studies where women and men names were assigned to hypothetical resumes and given to hiring authorities: male named resumes received higher "offering salaries" to the hypothetical candidate. I didn't have any retort to that one because I'd never heard of that study. I simply responded that HR was drastically female dominated so it isn't men deciding to pay women less. Anyone here heard of that study and have a good refuting argument for it?

[–]GingerJack76[S] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Unfortunately I can't speak for the other studies since you didn't provide them. However, we do know that women are more likely to take a smaller salary because they're more likely to be agreeable. Not only that, but women work less hours, and aren't as career focused as men. Men on the other had are very competitive and very disagreeable, and so an offering of a higher salary to ensure a competitive employee is needed. If women were more competitive, you would see the reverse. This is different from what this study shows, which seems to be caused by conformity bias, as the people taking the survey are trying to keep in line with the status quo, which is favoring women over men.

So to sum, the thing your girlfriend is arguing is based on men and women's different personality traits, and the thing this study is showing is that there is a current cultural pressure to have bias agaisnt men, in favor of women.

Any moment now, CNN will use this as evidence that there isn't systemic/institutional sexism in the hiring process....any....moment.......now..............

I've worked a few service jobs and it's definitely true, my full fist name is very masculine sounding, but on job applications I use the shorter version for the androgynous sound, and have gotten more call backs versus the full version.

[–]PokePj 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

6.1% thats pretty low, couldnt it just be margin of error?

[–]GingerJack76[S] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The margin of error on this would be about 2% given the number of respondents, meaning it can range from 4% - 8%, which would mean, at the very least, 1/25 men would be affected by this, and at most it means that 1/12 men would be affected by this. Given that this is in Australia, that would mean nearly 500,000 men would experience this if we assume it's only 4%, and just over 1,000,000 if we assume it's 8%. So no, it's not pretty low.

Eh. AS A GUY with a predominately woman's name....i got call backs when I was younger and applying at high turn over places like grocery stores. They'd think I was a woman and wanted to be a cashier.

As I got older and moved on to professional jobs I got less calls if I didn't show up in person to show them I'm a guy

That probably has more to do with you showing up, as that's how your supposed to get your foot in the door.
