OP, I think you're speculating a little too hard here. You have to realize what it takes to get accepted into the astronaut program. There is a reason you only see military O-4s and above or civilian PhDs. These people are the most highly experienced operators in their fields with the highest education and the highest evaluations. Not only that, but they have to be in top physical condition as well. These people are so elite with respect to everyone else that at that level any gender differences aren't highly pronounced. Any woman who can satisfy these stringent requirements is the real life equivalent of Wonder Woman and has earned the right to be an astronaut.

Unless you have evidence that these women were selected for gender and are not qualified, you really come across no different than feminists who claim sexism purely based on raw numbers of people in a given field.

NASA is probably under more scrutiny than most organizations due to its fame and reputation of producing role models and exciting news to keep an almost-neutral gender split. Though I may be concerned about selection bias, if they have an easier time getting funding for not landing in SJW sights, I'll pick a different battle to fight.

I'm scratching my head here. More men were selected for the program than women and you're calling shenanigans because you think they selected too many women? You believe that a purely scientific endeavour like NASA is going to start playing gender politics when they know that the smallest error can destroy a multi-billion dollar rocket carrying actual, living people?

Like, you realize that NASA has two serious incidents involving the loss of a craft and its crew, attributed to easily prevented mistakes. The logic you're running on is mindboggling.

NASA isn't going to get any funding for putting a man on Mars. If NASA gets there, a woman will be the first to step onto the surface. You can work backwards from that.

The woman who's first on Mars will be an exceptionally talented human being. Will she be a better choice than a male astronaut? Let's just say that there'll be a rigorous, fair, holistic process and a woman will emerge as the winner.

The official line is that women are as good at astronauting as men are, if not better, especially for long missions in a confined space. For example, they don't manspread in the capsule, they do their fair share of the chores, and they use their superior female communication skills to resolve tensions - whenever I say we need to talk, you always go on a spacewalk.

They should all be women. Women make better LEO astronauts as long as they stay under six months. They use less food, water and O2. They are very checklist oriented and focus well at detail oriented experiment work. Modern spacecraft mostly pilot themselves.

Now, outside of LEO and for long haul, the balance shifts back to men dramatically. Their bodies just can't take it, particularly how readily their bones decalcify.
