This isn't the winds of change at all. This is her demanding the workplace change again to suit her needs as a mother. She wants to work part time hours and get full time salary and benefits and prestige. She wants to work when and how she wants. In short, she wants to live like an artist, but without living hand to mouth.

And of course, if she was artistic, or creative, that is what she would be doing in the time she wants to fill with work, since it's basically the deal she has. And it is exactly what she is choosing to do by writing the article. But instead she wants the workplace to change... so she can go back and be told what to do?

Seriously, this shit is confusing. This woman is living the artists dream life, and she wants to go back to the plantation? Or does she want other women to stay on the plantation despite having children while she gets to stay at home and write articles? Does she just not feel rich enough, as though there is some empty hole she needs to fill?

I want flexible, interesting, well paid, part time opportunities that could suit both men and women to be the norm.

And I want world peace. Pretty much every one does. Good amount of effect it has had.

Work is hard. It takes effort. It has deadlines. It does not operate around you; you operate around it. It is, in many ways, similar to being a parent and operating around your child, and their particular ways and schedules.

This woman needs to take the job she already has more seriously, and maybe choose a topic other than what her feminist high school already did for her.

This article is nothing but whining to be honest.

Its not society's responsibility to ensure or help people have children - it doesnt need to thanks to immigration. Thus, having children is a choice - much like do I buy the mercedes or do I buy the toyota. If a buy a merc, should I then whine about how high the maintenance costs are?

Take another look at the article and see what the author is really complaining about - having to raise the kid by herself without help from the hubby because hubby is working like crazy.

If only mankind invented some machine which could extract milk from breasts and another machine to keep the milk until it's needed - kinda like what we do with cow's milk except with women.

Or perhaps mankind should get to work on developing a "formula" that provides the required nutrition that will allow a baby to thrive without breast milk - yeah, it's probably not as good as the real thing, but your child better get used to substitutes it's going to see a lot of them in it's life as you persue your career.

No man has ever died saying 'I wish I spent more time at work'.

You can do anything. You cannot do everything

Nobody gets to "Have it all".

You want the benifits of a full time career? Great. Find a day care and rejoin the full time workforce. Nobody is stopping you.

I do agree that the situation of mothers (in whatever country she lives) could be better. I'm swedish, and we get (IIRC) 1.5 years of payed parental leave to split between us - nobody had complained that I (a guy) takes half of the sick - kid days, or that I take 2 hours of parental leave every day so I'll have time to pick up (as well as drop off) the kids
