This is a disrespectful woman, definitely talking to him like a child. The nice thing is that he seems to be getting a lot of support from people on YouTube and other subreddits; I'd like to thing those responses are a better indication of society as a whole, but hopefully I'm not being too optimistic

Sounds like to me the guy took initiative to make things better in the AM. He should have let someone know that he was leaving early, however. Working for a woman like that, he needs to get a job someplace else, simply because that woman is obnoxious and the workplace is very rigid. Bad place to work, whether he's working for a male or a female.

I'd like to get outraged about this, but I have some problems:

The fact that he started recording (illegally) before going into the disciplinary meeting, and the tone she took, indicates to me that he has problematic behavior. I mean, yeah, she was talking to him like a cunt to a child. Sometimes that's what you have to do. Some people just don't accept accountability for their behavior. That's how children behave.

With that information, I'm just going to have to assume that this was just an employee with an attitude who's getting canned for being on his own fucking program instead of doing his job appropriately.

This seems more like a race issue than a men's rights issue. And men have spoken to women like that for centuries. I don't think it's right for anyone to do it. But I also don't think you can say things like "this is where society is headed" when it's been here all along. The roles are just reversed in this scenario.

While she's a bit of a cunt, I can see where she's coming from.

He left early. When she starts to chew him out for leaving early, he keeps insisting that he didn't leave early and that he had no choice because he'd started early.

From his boss's perspective, an employee screwed up and is trying to bullshit their way out of it rather than apologizing and accepting any responsibility. Then he doubles down saying that she's bullying him (I wonder why?).

That said ... she kind of lacks management skills. Especially for an educator, this isn't how you handle a confrontation - you don't escalate this way. You're no longer arguing about the initial mistake, you're arguing about arguing, and it just becomes an escalating cluster fuck.

Like, I'm sure there's teachers who can explain it better, but the way to deal with an unruly child (or adult):

Acknowledge their position without agreeing - "I understand you came in early, but you still need to stay till the end of your shift because we might need you".
Say what you want them to do - "So will you make sure you clear it with your manager before leaving early?" If you're treating someone like an idiot, then it's idiotic to play this game of "make them guess what you want" - do you really expect them to figure it out (and why would they if you're not treating them with respect?).
Explain the consequences and move on.

Trying to force someone to apologize (especially to you) is just a recipe for a drawn-out argument. It's a lot easier to get someone to agree to change their behavior than to apologize for past mistakes. Most people want to do the right thing, but don't want to admit that they screwed up in the past. Maybe asking him to apologize to someone else (did a teacher have to cover for him? did it cause problems to a class?) would be possible, but it's probably not a priority here.
