This is going backwards.

I don't want to take away any of the forms of women's choice to become a parent. I want equality of men having the same choice to become a parent.

[–]theninjallama 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

How do you achieve that without compromising a females rights?

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points20 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Allowing men to opt out of parenthood.

How does this affect women's rights at all??

[–]theninjallama 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh gotcha gotcha

[–]the_unseen_one 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's something. If it takes chaining men's rights to women's to get some progress, then I'll tolerate it.

[–]Singulaire 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If you lose the power to "oops" a man into a family or at the very least child support payments, then that's a loss of power, though it only affects those women who are awful people. Even so, there are plenty of people who will fight to maintain this power, even ones who aren't likely to use it themselves.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with your statement BUT those aren't rights.

[–]kpak76 -3 points-2 points-1 points 9 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

Better way is to ban abortion completely. All it is a get of jail free card for the careless at the expense of another humans life. Its shameful as fuck we even allow it.

[–]theninjallama 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That solves absolutely nothing my friend. If someone wants an abortion they're gonna get one however they can. Kind of like how futile the war on drugs has been.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not saying an abortion ban will solve the egalitarian issues but I want to point out that I think the "back ally" abortions is a concept cooked up from a different time in history that would be extremely difficult to implement today.

It would be too easy for a doctor to get caught performing an illegal operation these days. The med equipment and drugs costs a lot out of pocket and can be tracked and if something went wrong there will be people out for blood looking for who was responsible. The risk to reward is absolutely far too great.

Illegal medical operations and black markets can mean serious felonies also and coupled with the idea the vast majorities of families today not caring if a woman gets pregnant out of wedlock the prospective risks vs costs vs rewards would make the entire situation not viable. It would be cheaper and safer to fly to Mexico or Canada for an abortion.

[–]andejoh 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can make the same arguments for other crimes like rape and murder, which are also illegal. Making it illegal hasn't stopped it. I think you need more than people will do it anyway.

[–]kpak76 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Same can be said for murder. Why make it easy?

[–]Vorpal_Spork 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Blanket statements are fucking retarded. What about rape victims? What about people who did use birth control? That shit isn't 100% effective.

[–]andejoh 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

What about male rape victims who are forced into fatherhood and I don't mean child support payments? If a woman rapes a male and has "his child", his genes are passed on without his consent regardless of whether he parents or pays financially. Should he be able to force her to abort?

What about relevant arguments? None of that has anything to do with what I was talking about. The guy I was replying to said abortion should be banned because it's nothing but a crutch for careless people, which is demonstrably false. I was pointing out that there are ways for even careful responsible people to have unwanted pregnancies.

[–]kpak76 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Its false that irrisponsible people are having unwanted pregnancies?

Are you even hearing yourself?

[–]Vorpal_Spork -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I never said that. Here, let me fix your illiteracy.

Its false that only irrisponsible people are having unwanted pregnancies

[–]kpak76 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

You just youre responding to the guy who wanted to ban abortion because its a crutch for careless people (im assuming that meant me). Sure sounded like you disagree with that position. If you don't, its you that needs to reword that sentence to actuallu mean what you meant.

And yes, unless you are impregnated while raped (which is rare ass occurance) you were irresponsible if you have an unwanted pregnancy.

[–]Vorpal_Spork -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

What planet do you live on where they've invented adamantium condoms that never break and 100% effective birth control pills? I'd like to work out a trade deal with you so I can share those with Earth and become a billionaire.

[–]kpak76 -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

You really seem to have a hard time grasping the concept that a fetus is a human life....

What about rape victims? Do you kill the child because the sins of their father? What about failed birth control? You kill a kid because their parents were unlucky? There is a reason sex was so tabooed in society retard.

[–]Chinpokumon24 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A fetus isn't a human life. It's technically a parasite living off of a host (the mother). It just has the potential to be a life once it's harvested enough energy and life force from its host. Calling a fetus a human life is like calling flour and eggs a cake. It has the potential to be a cake if someone wants to spend the time and energy baking it. Until then it's just ingredients. Unwanted kids are a real issue. Forcing someone to be a parent is not a good idea for anyone involved. A child isn't going to receive the love and attention it needs if at least one of the parents regrets having it. Allow women to opt out of motherhood through abortions. Allow men to opt out through legal means.

[–]Vorpal_Spork -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's a straw man. I never said I'm for late term abortions. I do not consider an amorphous blob the size of a pea to be a human.

[–]kpak76 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

When was i talking about late term abortions? All abortion is wrong no matter when its performed.

And what an idiot like you thinks does not change the fact you are pro murder. Congrats, hope burning in hell is fun asstard.

What you think does not trump facts idiot. Go preach to planned parenthood as they habe their doors shut.

And typical callinh an argument you cant actually debate as a straw man too. Common ploy by the one who is absolutely wrong in their position.

Yeah a book written by desert cavemen 2000 years ago is totally a valid thing to base your life on. I'll be sure to say hi to the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny for you when I get there.

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly, this is disgusting social conservative bullshit that caused feminism in the first place.

[–]Leinadro 35 points36 points37 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Do not want. Women can have their reproductive rights. Men need rights of their own.

[–]Lethn 12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, this is just going from one extreme to the other, just glancing through I already don't like this idea which is why I'm pretty wary of the right gaining any power. I agree with the right on economics and freedom of speech, small government etc. but I disagree with them socially on just about everything else.

[–]theninjallama 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Completely agree, this headline just sounds and feels rediculous to me.

[–]ustael 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's just a headline to demonize men and republicans.

[–]the_unseen_one 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Same. I want to appreciate the sentiment, but I think it's meant more as a "haha fuck you women, now you'll never get abortions!" rather than a misguided attempt to help men's rights. Too bad this is the best we can expect anytime soon.

[–]ustael 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Just like doctors who will not give a man a vasectomy without their wife's consent.

[–]Rickoversghost 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Wait that's a thing?

[–]fengpi 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

My understanding is that such a policy is up to the individual doctor and there have been doctors who've done that.

At the very least, I know of no rule that would prevent a doctor from doing so. And there certainly is no law against it.

[–]Rickoversghost 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would lose my damn mind. Thankfully I would have to have sex to impregnate someone and that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon so I guess it's a mute point for me. Haha

[–]ustael 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I know it is not a law, and a choice for the Dr. to make for his/her practice. But could you imagine the repercussions if a Dr. at a planned parenthood or another clinic told a pregnant woman she needed to get approval from her husband before having an abortion? there would be riots.

[–]fengpi 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminists are too passive-aggressive to riot. They'd ask their male consorts to riot for them instead.
