If both parties of the relationship did this it would be a utopia. If one person is expected to do all of this without return of care from the partner then yes it would be totally unfair.

That list seems a bit excessive, but I agree; if those were standards that both partners aspired to in a relationship, then the world would be a better place.

However, there's one thing on that list I don't see that should really be there; be capable of recognizing you're wrong and be willing to admit it.

Again, both partners.

Someone has watched too many Disney princess movies.

It seems to me these these articles are actually less about feminists telling men what to do in a relationship but more them projecting all of their own shitty experiences onto men and telling them not behaving like that. On the surface it's 'relationship advice' but it says a hell of a lot more about them than the men they're criticising.

It seems to me these these articles are actually less about feminists telling men what to do ...

While it's a fair bet that if you asked Holly Riordan straight out if she were a feminist or not, she would likely say that she was, but I think it's striking that she doesn't mention up front - here is how Thought Catalog describes her:

Aspiring science fiction author. Dog owner. Neil Patrick Harris fangirl.

Holly Riordan writes about love and sex by day and science fiction and horror by night. When she’s not writing (which is rare), she’s busy reading books by Gillian Flynn and watching shows by Vince Gilligan.

Here's how she describes herself on Twitter:

@ThoughtCatalog staff. I write about sex by day and sci-fi by night.

And here's her on Instagram:

Holly Riordan Thought Catalog writer. Obsessed with puppies and Neil Patrick Harris. Link to my book below: www.amazon.com/If-You-Were-Still-Alive/dp/1945796251

TL;DR You can say what you like about the listicle - and it certainly deserves criticism - but nowhere does she mention the 'f' word...

I see no shortage of men willing to fall in line with traditional gender roles. The problem is the lack of women who want to do the same. Women today just expect to be waited on like they're a princess and you're the butler. They're not worth the effort they require.

[–]Santaball 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women are so much fucking work.

He should make an effort to text back. And he should remember to tell you where he is and what he’s doing. It’s the easiest way to build trust.

Sounds borderline obsessive to me, certainly untrusting. So long as you know your SO is safe and well, you don't need to know their every move.

[–]bakedpotato486 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a very skewed sense of trust. Instead of trusting that he's doing just fine, she in fact doesn't trust him and needs him to tell her everything he's doing on a regular basis.

[–]bakedpotato486 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

archive, damn it. don't give them clicks, thus ad revenue, thus money in their pocket as a direct result of writing this crap.

[–]sanskami 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He's getting pegged right there. Yeah the men are doing it all I guess.

[–]Funcuz 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That is a list written by a 15 year old with serious issues concerning relationships.

"You should..." is not the list of a person I ever want to know all that much.

[–]miredroditku 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Given that they use the childish phrase "forever person," I'm inclined to agree.

[–]leftleftbehind 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It seems like a reasonable list of expectations for a partner. The problem is these desires are not being fulfilled by women's fuck buddies and one night stands. Women need to look in the mirror, change themselves before they ask men to change.

[–]Senno82 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

To be honest, if both parties are doing this than you would have great relationships.

[–]Derrythe 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Some of it goes a bit overboard, but yeah, most of this is a list of things both people should try to do if they're interested in a lasting relationship.

For the overboard stuff. Trying to always let you know where he is and what he's doing? God no. I mean, if my wife asks where I am I'll tell her, if she asks what I'm doing I'll be honest, but that isn't information I'm going to bother being proactive about .

Making women cum is very unimportant.

[–]kragshot 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually, it's misogynist....

I can't make this stuff up....

[–]DietPCCola 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All of these seem like common sense to me. Only exception would be maybe #7, depending on the circumstances; not everyone is worthy of continued attempts to be nice. In fact this might be one of the least infuriating things I've read here.

1-12 He should make an effort to ...

[–]tetraourogallus 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

  1. She should make an effort to plan dates. She shouldn’t expect you to come up with ideas every weekend. Once in a while, she should take you to a new restaurant or shop that she thinks you’re going to love.

  2. She should make an effort to text back. And she should remember to tell you where she is and what she’s doing. It’s the easiest way to build trust. If she’s always open with you, then there’s no reason to doubt what she says.

  3. She should make an effort to flirt. I don’t care if you’ve been dating for decades. She should never take your love for granted. She should still try to woo you, even though she already has you.

  4. She should make an effort to give you an orgasm. You don’t have to climax every single time you have sex, but you should climax the majority of the time. That means there should be plenty of foreplay and oral.

  5. She should make an effort to save her money. If she honestly wants to spend the rest of her life with you, then she has to prepare for the future. She should be resisting the urge to waste all her cash on clothes and should be working alongside you to save up money for a house.

  6. She should make an effort to make you feel like a major part of her life. She should update you on what’s going on at work. She should invite you out with his friends. She should make you feel important.

  7. She should make an effort to get along with your friends and family members. She doesn’t have to go on one-on-one brunch dates with your mother, but she should treat everyone you care about with respect. Even if your disapproving mother is a little rude to her, it doesn’t mean she should be rude back. She should be trying her best to make a good impression.

  8. She should make an effort to come to compromises. If you two disagree on something, there shouldn’t be a big blowout that ends with only one of you getting your way. You should find a solution that benefits you both. Otherwise, the resentment is going to kick in.

  9. She should make an effort to maintain the house. You’re not his father. She shouldn’t rely on you to do all of her chores for her. She should be doing just as much housework as you.

  10. She should make an effort to look good. She doesn’t have to wear a skintight dress during every date, just like you don’t have to wear a suit and tie. But she should at least look presentable. She should keep those legs shaven and wear that underwear that she knows her butt looks amazing in.

  11. She should make an effort to keep herself healthy. If she loves you, she’ll take care of herself, so that you two can have a long life together.

  12. She should make an effort to make you happy. She should think your smile is the most beautiful thing in the world, and she should aim to see it as often as humanly possible.

Women really aren't the romantic sex, it's why GFE is so popular among men who hire sex workers, including married men.

Women consume romance, but usually only the sex workers and romance novelists are romance producers, where as men are expected to be romance producers, but rarely get to consume it unless they pay for it.
