I actually know the Officer that initially worked this case. I guess the dad was cleaning out his garage and found the remains of the fetus almost a year after the crime. I can't imagine how horrible he must have felt. Was talking to a friend about it and thought to post it here, given all the times women get no jail time for murdering their babies.

EDIT For those wondering, her defense in court was that the baby was born 4 months early and was cold to the touch when it was born. The medical examiner had this to say, "However, the autopsy report shows that the baby was a well-developed, healthy baby -- born five pounds, six ounces and 19 inches long." The autopsy also showed that the baby was born alive with expanded lungs.

EDIT I was incorrect about the time frame. The remains were discovered about a week after the crime was committed, rather then a year.

Per the prosecutor, she could have dropped the child off at a hospital or fire station.
She was training to be a nurse in college.
Someone drags out the “I think she just didn’t know what to do and has no one to turn to” argument.

No mention of a father anywhere in the article. How much do you want to bet that he wasn't even given the choice of raising the child.

while what she did was super shitty. thats something she would have to live with the rest of her life.... her dad however is just as big of ass hole for turning her in. Now not only is the baby dead, but its dead for no reason as the womans life is pretty much forfeit now as well... should have just buried it and pertended it never happend. Obviously no one was looking for it, if it was mia in a box for a year in the garage.

You sound like you take such glee in something that's a tragedy all around. Even the father must feel terrible because he's the ultimate cause of his daughter's charges, and he came across the remains a year after the fact when nothing could be done to change what had been done. You're kind of the morbid reality here.
