Pretty much the reverse of what happens in extreme situations when affirmative actions promotes inferior female applicants over better- qualified male applicants. Even without affirmative action, similar female applicants are preferred two-to-one over men for STEM jobs. Men are only preferred when they are better applicants.

I would argue that this happens to with minority candidates when applying for jobs and schools
There was a case in the last couple years and it up making it to the Supreme Court that was filed from a white student I think from the university of Texas after proving (although the court shot it down like they always do) but proving that the school had basically thrown her out of college in place of minority applicants

it's bad enough that practice exists in hiring practices at all but the fact that it can be so blatant at times as well makes the sting that much worse.

School education lies about everything. I remember learning about the slave trade and was never told of how African tribes enslaved conquered African tribes. Or the middle easts involvment in it. Only how white people were responsible.

In all seriousness, that only works for a first job.
That's less important then some people think, because after 5 years, your first job isn't really meaningful any more.
But in some ways, it's much more important than you think, because joining the economic system is critical to future income. If you are poor and like in a predominantly black area, you don't have a 'friend of your Dad's who hires a couple of kids every summer'.
But for a job requiring a university degree? The sarcasm is noted, and dead-on.

As a white straight name I don't have a friend of a dad who his a few people every summer.
Sounds like people confusing wealthy privilege for other kinds of privilage.
As a straight white man I tend to not get a second look from cops, unless I'm near a park.
My privilege boils down to straight and white and male is simple and easy to understand, so people are nicer to it.
