Being clever and witty is good, but mind the balance. Overdoing it can look like supplication or attention-seeking

You're happy and smiling because you don't care about important stuff enough (like making jokes versus having sex / looking seriously for a partner) and this can be a bit annoying for girls or people in general. Not smiling sometime can give the vibe of caring about more important things. It can also be the creepy looking 'im socially akward'.. it depends on the "non smiling".

mostly i would say the most important in the end is how you interact with people, what subjects you bring, what general vibe and confidence you give to people, not just a fixed physical apparence or a mood "at some point". You can be a "serious guy but sociable and a good listener with a good sense of humour" it's a matter of balance

So my question is, should I go against my personality and embody something I'm not or just roll with it?

well personally i forbid myself often to cut out smileys from texts and not make too much jokes when i meet a girl. It's because i tend to relate to people in a "child" way as a default state because... I don't know, i'm just very easily entertained and see everything as a joke all the time.

If this is the only known, most successful way for you to attract, then why change it?

If you sense there is something that you could be doing better, then relate it to how you currently operate. Don't jump ship on your own natural demeanor, you'll be snuffed out as fake instantly.

I think people take this mysterious thing too far.

Being a weird loner isn't mysterious. It's just weird.

Be fun. Just don't tell them everything about you immediately. No one wants to know or actually cares. A couple facts in conversation are fine.

I usually talk about recent stuff I've done or things that have happened to me. Then when for clarification they need to know something about me sure I'll tell them.

It should come about naturally versus you just immediately launching into some life story.
