"Obviously, we regret any factual errors in any story,” the statement read. “But Rolling Stone believes the essential point of Jackie’s narrative is, in fact, true: a young woman suffered a horrific crime at a party, and a prestigious university reacted with indifference to her claim. This happens too often at college campuses all over America. Any mistakes we made were honest ones, trying hard to create a narrative and an investigation that would improve the prevention, investigation and prosecution of sexual violence. For that we would never apologize.”

Fuck the facts; push the narrative. Or as Dan Rather told us, it's fake, but accurate. The only thing Erdely and Rolling Stone did wrong is they got caught pushing the narrative.

Why any honest person takes these lying corporate media propaganda-pushing snakes at face value escapes me.

Erdely sent an e-mail ... with a simple subject line: “Our worst nightmare.” The body of the message detailed how Erdely no longer trusted the primary source for the most striking anecdote in her article: a U-Va. junior named “Jackie,”

Is she saying that a student not being raped and the fraternity being innocent is a worse nightmare than the student being raped and the fraternity guilty?

What kind of sick woman is this?

Let's look at the positive here: this is the top-read story at WaPo right now. And it is a long story that paints a dark picture of the rape culture peddlers and their nefarious quest to support their big lie.

I just wish NOW was mentioned in there.

An appropriate reaction. Universities should not be involved in the private lives of students in just the same way that organizations are not involved in the private affairs of their employees. If a crime occurs the police should be informed, the crime investigated and charges laid.

I think the biggest problem here stems from:

They ASSUMED she was telling the truth because of her gender. And I think that is the crux of the problem.

I have had more than one friend, and a family member, been brutally raped by strangers. A drunk guy tried to have unprotected sex with me when I was crazy drunk in undergrad and basically could not move and kept saying "no" - and I didn't even consider that date rape, or honestly even all that weird. It happened all over the place.

I will tell you one thing. Not myself nor ANY of the people who I know who have been through anything like this would have worked with Rolling Stone to make an article about it. You don't want anyone to know.

Schools do underreport rapes. Schools try to deal with sexual abuse cases ON THEIR OWN so they can hide their numbers. The only people who should be involved are the police, period, but the schools do not tell you that, or don't even let the local police on campus ("campus police" is a fucking joke.)

I know someone who is a guy, and right now his ex-gf is trying to get him kicked out of law school - who shouldn't have even dated him in the first place, as she was his mentor. He didn't do anything to merit getting kicked out of school (he flipped out when she dumped him, as we have ALL done, on occasion). But the school is considering it anyway and THAT is bullshit. It's a very weird situation and there is no question in my mind if the genders were reversed, this would not even be a thing AT ALL. Very sad.

It's a horrible system both for those, of either gender, who have been raped, and those, of either gender, who have been falsely accused.
