Ironically, most of the women that have come to rule have done so due to a man dying. Either by war or through some stupid choice a woman made.

Shit. Why call out GoT specifically? This is every movie or TV show that's ever come out of Hollywood in the past 40 years. A man and a woman are going to have a physical confrontation? The woman is OBVIOUSLY going to win, duh, women always beat men in physical conflicts. In Hollywood, anyway.

Ah, the auld switcheroo!

A. See one too many rape scenes and blow up the Internet with articles about how sexist GoT is.

B. Get savaged by fans for being feminist dunces who miss that the female characters in GoT are not in 21st Century western democracies, but are modeled on the Anglo-Saxon invasion era of British history. They wield different power, a different way, because direct power isn't available. That doesn't make them weak, it makes them creative and ingenious. Besides, EVERYONE suffers in GoT. For every Sansa, there's a Theon.

C. When the "GoT is sexist" angle doesn't fly, because anyone with any knowledge of the series knows the claim is bullshit, and the claim was made with most of the female characters being mid-arc, right when they specifically face challenges they have to overcome ... out comes the articles about how feminist GoT is.

I don't want to suggest that we shouldn't point out misandry in the media, even in fictional shows like GoT, but, really, it's just a TV show. The last thing we should be doing is allowing ourselves to be consumed by outrage culture, and start hating on any cultural material that carries perceived messages we don't like. Yes, Game of Thrones is full of messages about how evil men can be. It's also a lot of fun and I'm not going to stop watching it. Unless they kill Tyrion. Then I'll stop watching it.

One of the things GoT gets praised for is its lack of "plot armor," which keeps viewers on their toes. Except... GRRM definitely plays favorites, and the female characters are mostly his favorites. Males get a pass if they are physically disabled in some way (how many castrated characters do we have now? Three?). Jon Snow is the main exception... he's an able bodied male leader who we're not meant to actively root against.

We've known since season 1 that Daenerys was going to holier-than-thou her way to the Iron Throne. We've known since the beginning that Arya Stark was going to defy all odds to become the greatest ass-kicker there ever was. We've known since meeting Brienne of Tarth that she is going to become the greatest knight who ever knighted. And now we know that Yara Greyjoy is going to fulfill the "women would rule better" trope for the Iron Islands.

Funny how it's a triumph for feminists now that Sansa is back in Winterfell... and a whole bunch of men died getting her there, while she did very little except provide counsel and relay messages.

When she was a captive, it was rape cultury misogyny.

Granted, I don't blame her for not fighting. She's not a warrior, and it's not really her fault for not being one.

That first photo says "warrior women." Only one of those women is a warrior. None of the others have ever been depicted fighting.

Hollywood is so scared of feminist criticism that it has started tailoring its plots to appease them. Season 6 of Game of Thrones[1] is a prime example.

It is like the artists who worked under communist rule--they can produce work, but only so long as nothing undermines the official narrative.

[1] At least, so far, and best exemplified by last week's episode "Battle of the Bastards."

Women have taken power positions in the past. There are plenty of strong men too, but they don't have the right name in order to take power. OR connections. etc.
