When I was denied access to half of the scholarships on offer for my program and at my university generally, in spite of the fact that I come from a more economically disadvantaged background than the large majority of students enrolled in the program in which I majored. Those scholarships were available to female students only; mostly privileged, middle- and upper-middle-class women attending one of my country's best universities subsidized by their parents' money while I had to work to fund my education. Because I have a penis.

If you honestly think that the conversations in this sub revolve around men being "oppressed", then there exist two possible explanations. The first is that you have only just shown up here, and have chosen not to evaluate the space before asking your smug, condescending questions. Alternatively, you have been lurking, but you have evaluated every conversation you have seen here through a lens which makes it impossible for you to appreciate nuance.

This forum exists to discuss the struggles and difficulties men face in society as a result of a range of issues. The causes of many of the problems faced by large numbers of men in the modern world include the sociobiological predisposition which exists in human beings to view men as disposable, the devastating effect of industrialism and post-industrial developments on men's roles in society, and the way in which feminists have employed vast social and political capital to encourage governments, institutions, media and individuals to ignore and dismiss these problems.

The Men's Rights movement, by and large, does not have any use for the idiotic Marxian division of society into "oppressed and oppressor" classes. That is the preserve of SJWs, and other people too simple-minded and uneducated to comprehend the complexities of human society.

I saw about a week a ago a young girl with a bike problem on the street. My first inclination was to help ... but something stopped me and I just walked by. It's almost like instinctual: middle-aged men and young girls just don't go together.

Well, you can argue that helping someone is not a privilege but it actually is. It gives you a good feeling. Nowadays, when helping has become a potential source of discomfort or even danger, I feel like I'm missing something essential in my life.

And it's not just kids, it's women under about 60 that I don't help. I realized one day that I even smile less to them. It's like I'm somehow ashamed of being a middle-aged man in the public and the society encourages me to behave this way. (Thankfully I can "be myself" among my family, neighbors, and friends.)

I could of course tell you about all kinds of situations when I or my sons have met unfairness over the years (job markets, conscription, getting an apartment, being hit by women and so on) but that's not what you asked.

my birth (circumcision)...my childhood (my female babysitter abused me)... schooling (raped by both a man and a woman)... and my job where i try to give abused / neglected children more of a childhood than i ever got. (you'd think working with kids it would be more of a social thing but it's not, there are different requirements based on gender.) Now then, since you're not here to debate, what are you here for?

When I was laughed at by police officers when reporting a rape where I was drugged was the biggest.

When I had to sign up for the draft for another. You know what was stupid? I was in the Marines when I had to sign up for the draft. Seriously. I was already enlisted. They already owned me, and I still had to sign myself away.

But most recently? It's the day to day. I don't get to rest. I work all week, come home and teach the kids all night (we homeschool... I teach math... three kids).

Then on the weekends I do yardwork and pool maintenance. I run the recyclables to the recycling center, run the van by the car wash with the free vacuums so I can clean it out and vacuum it out to keep it clean.

I do all the stereotypically male stuff around the house... and I'm just tired sometimes. Sometimes I'd like a rest.

Well, about an hour ago someone let a door close in my face. They would have held the door if I was a woman. I had no expectation of getting female privilege, so I was ready for the door. This was clearly (if trivially) a case of being a men not being a benefit.

A few hours before that someone at Lowe's laughed at me because I asked a question "every man should know that"

I could list hundreds of such trivial examples where I didn't get female privilege or failed at being manly enough. 4 or 5 happen every day.

As far as big stuff. Men are the under represented minority in higher education. When accepting financial aid for next semester, I didn't get any extra grants or scholarships for being male. My female peers in the privileged majority did get grants and scholarships for being female. At a time in life when people are poorest, hundreds possibly thousands in cold hard cash is HUGE. Being male didn't help me out at all.

I was taking a nice jog at the beach, when I noticed a little girl on the ground crying. Maybe 6-8 I would guess, she fell on the rock barrier and banged her knee up good, was bleeding a bit, not bone deep or nothing though. So I scooped her up and carried her to the campground she was staying at.

The first thing the parents ask when I get there is "What the hell did you do to my little girl?" Dad was pretty aggressive, I am lucky I am in great shape or he might have started something physical, instead of yelling at me.

Not, "Thanks", but "What the hell did you do to my little girl?". I seriously doubt that a woman doing the same would be treated like a scumbag for helping out a kid in need.

As far as how it affects me personnaly: my country is fairly less regressive than the US. But still, when (the historically more productive) half of the population drops out of society, you'd better believe it will affect me.

As a guy you can't enjoy being around children, or people look at you like you want to fuck them or something.

I mean mens entire lives are more difficult than womens lives.

If you're a woman, especially an attractive woman, but really just not terrible looking, you can pretty much find a guy to take care of you whenever you decide to do so. That option is always on the table. If you're an even remotely pretty girl your live is easy street the whole way through.
