This is a level of self-absorption that I can't even imagine. Not a thought for the young men being maimed and dying. Not a thought to the children that will grow up without fathers, parents who've lost sons, the loss of a generation that could change Syria for the better with work and innovation.

Not a word about ways to stop the violence. To fix the problems, or at least move the conflict from blood to words.

No. It's all about the loss to their social life and not getting to have a family, and how that benefits gay women. Even if women in Syrian society don't want gender equality and the changes to society that goes with it (given the outcry from women about the possibility if registering for Selective Service in U.S., and I imagine the outcry might be worse from a more conservative society), the bare fact of it is, nothing that people are suffering from in their social life compares to the loss of life or the loss of loved family member. And an article written in the U.K. should damn well know understand that without it being spelled out.
