Jesus H. Christ. This article is simply promoting evil hatred toward boys — and this time it's a father hating on his own son. And why oh why is The Telegraph becoming more like The Guardian every day?

"So who is really to blame for my little boy’s dreadful sexism?... It’s the deep-rooted misogyny that still exists all around us."

So his little boy is suffering from some sort of "mental illness" — and it's all to do with the hatred of women (by men) that is everywhere.

Give this "journalist" the mangina of the year award.

[–]scruffist 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Award seconded.

Ignoring reality.

my little boy might have made a beeline for the trains and diggers, but he would have happily dressed up as a princess or pushed around a toy pram, too.

Self-hate.

setting a bad example by not wearing enough pink princess-style clobber myself.

Frightening the level of control they seek over their child.

And what happens when he starts school, and his social influences become wider and even further from our control?

Lucky for this guy, Telegraph turned off comments. I'm sure people would let him know what they think.

And you would think they promote "free range" kids....

This kid just started talking and they are already trying to "range" and mold him into their own beliefs.... i though theyre were pro-independent kids

fuck this SJW hypocrisy on every level

All children of around 4 years of age are very critical of other people's gender, it's just boys, it's girls as well.

[–]EgoandDesire 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you have to "correct" a childs normal, natural behavior, the problem isn't the kid, the problem is your sick ideology.

When his Jurassic World toys come out, Owen (the burly alpha male Chris Pratt) is always the hero.

Chris Pratt? Burly? Alpha male?

Go home, Tom. You're drunk. These former male models and strippers might be today's snarky action heroes, but no one would ever mistake them for Arnold, Sly, Dolph, or any action hero who could convincingly sell that the villain was about to get his ass kicked.

And, according to Dr Fine, there’s now a huge tension between our modern egalitarian values...

modern egalitarian values which means everything a man is is evil and everything a female is is good therefore men should attempt to be more like females.

So who is really to blame for my little boy’s dreadful sexism?

It’s everything. It’s the deep-rooted misogyny that still exists all around us.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy MISOGYNY prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to SLUT-SHAME.

These people are religious zealots who worship themselves.

The only thing I credit the dad for is that it probably is unhealthy to put artificial barriers about toys, colors, or anything, out of some misguided sense that "it's not for people like me". But you can almost solely credit marketers and parents for this.

Kids compartmentalize. Marketers and parents tell them they're right to be rigid about it.

You should do whatever the heck you prefer doing, even if that includes 'the wrong stuff'. Ideally kids grow out of the rigidity and doesn't feel he has to pretend to like shit he doesn't, and not like shit he does. Regardless of how it aligns with gender or geekyness or nerdyness (yes, I'm looking at you Leonard, I apologize for being nerdy or geeky I'm not worthy, Hoftstader).

There's nothing that makes me more sick than fathers like this. Just as bad as mothers who charge their fucking FOUR YEAR OLD SONS as sexist.

The only thing I'm glad is that, when his son is older, he's going to catch on to the contempt his father has for him. It's not going to be pretty at all. And good riddance. This father deserves everything that might come.

My four-year-old son is sexist - so who's to blame?

Well first, let's just ask whether he's actually sexist.

My son is a sexist. As much as a four-year-old can be sexist, at least.

He’s started conforming to very old fashioned stereotypes: pink is girlie, Mummy’s not allowed to play with male action figures, girls don’t do the driving (or hold toy guns – for fear of breaking a nail, presumably) and, of course, boys always save the day.

It’s surprised us. We’re not bohemian enough for full-on gender neutral parenting, but we’ve been active in reinforcing equality and positive gender roles since he was born.

Pink is for everyone, Mummy can play with whatever toys she likes, and girls do their equal share of driving and saving the day. Thanks very much.

Have you reinforced positive gender roles FOR BOYS? Have you actually exposed him to media where both men AND women save the day? Or have you just thrown "GURL POWR" crap at him, where all the women are intelligent, emotionally strong, good at everything and balance saving the world and being a loving mother, and the men are either villains or bumbling comic relief sidekicks? Have you lectured him about how Patriarchy is the root of all evil in this world, and taught him things like: "Never hit or disrespect women," but never things like: "If someone hits you, you have the right to defend yourself even if she's a girl?"

My guess is that you've so ham-fistedly try to condition him into subservience that he's rebelling against you.

I concur: my little boy might have made a beeline for the trains and diggers, but he would have happily dressed up as a princess or pushed around a toy pram, too.

So where has this come from?

Even as a fairly conscious, liberal parent, I consider my own behaviour: introducing my son to superheroes and ninja turtles because that’s what I liked as a kid; doing more ‘man’s work’ than household chores; the time I subtly (but very definitely) talked him out of buying ‘girlie’ Lego because the action-based stuff was cooler; and setting a bad example by not wearing enough pink princess-style clobber myself.

So you second-guessed every decision you made. And whether you tried to or not, you taught him that there was something wrong with being a boy and liking it.

That’s reassuring, but I have to take some responsibility. The films I let him watch, for instance, have had an undeniable effect. His favourite, Jurassic World, has dreadful gender politics. When his Jurassic World toys come out, Owen (the burly alpha male Chris Pratt) is always the hero. Meanwhile, Claire (the screaming Bryce Dallas Howard) is barely allowed behind the wheel of the truck.

1: He's FOUR YEARS OLD. He's only there for the dinosaurs. Second, did we watch the same movie? The one where Claire is able to simultaneously be a pretty girl in high heels, an high-powered executive who runs the park, AND an action hero even if she isn't quite as good at it as Owen?

“You can say to your son, “girls can save the day too”, but if what he tends to see around him in books, games and films is something else, that’s a more powerful message.”

Is that really what he's seen, though? I find that hard to believe. I'm not an expert on today's Children's media, but a huge percentage of it is female-dominated and/or makes a conscious effort to be equality-oriented. He sure isn't learning that girls can only play with pink toys from fucking Sesame Street.

So who is really to blame for my little boy’s dreadful sexism?

You are. Like I said, I cannot fathom how a parent making ANY effort towards teaching their child to believe in gender equality could end up with him thinking girls can't drive. Either you're exagerrating and misinterpreting the slightest things as misogyny, or you have gone so far overboard that he's realized that his child's world is utterly dominated by strong women and weak men, and in his play he's desperate to have someone like him have a chance to be a hero for once.

[–]SchalaZeal01 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Like I said, I cannot fathom how a parent making ANY effort towards teaching their child to believe in gender equality could end up with him thinking girls can't drive.

He probably means that his Owen figurine always drive his Jurassic World car. If he means anything more, he does have issues, or his kid of 4 years has never seen people driving in real life.

[–]Asher-D 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

XD So basically you have on your hands a well functioning child who understands what gender is, understands their own gender and wants to make their identity known? You know basic growing 4-year-old shit, the signs of a healthy child and their growing and healthy mind. Only goes to show how we actually are different and we didn't just make all of this shit up.

[–]AVAtistar 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So. a beta dad fails to endocrinate his naturaly alpha son into submision.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Jeez. Okay, I don't think a kid should be saying "Pink is a girls' color," or that boys can't play with dolls and girls can't like superheroes. That certainly was not how I was raised. My parents had a very strict "Nothing is just for boys or just for girls," policy as evidenced by a pink cup incident with one of my cousins. There would be a very quick correction on this child in my house, but it would never be called sexism. It would be called foolishness and it would be corrected with something like forcing them to drink from a pink cup or perhaps telling the kid that if girls can't play with something, boys can't either.

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. One of my kids went through a racist stage at that age. Socially awkward? Fuck yeah. But we just soldiered on and corrected him constantly and it passed as his brain matured. 4-year-olds are not subtle thinkers. If they aren't being raised by actual sexists (or racists or homophobes or dog-fearers vegetable-haters or Creationists or whatever), a period of unreasonable bias is not anything to worry about.

[–]Asher-D -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's evidence of a growing and healthy mind, sure they're think very black and white at this stage but the coming to understand differences and what those differences are and where they fit. Sure the child can be corrected because it is very black and white and over simplified but I don't think it should be discouraged because it's them trying to figure the world out and I think by discouraging it you are indirectly telling them that learning is not ok.

I feel sorry for little boys raised by "men" like this.
