What she said wasn't really objectification but just a really weird thing to say to a person, yeah everyone definatley gets judged on their appearance if that what you're saying

Objectification is different to and more complex than that.

Being guilty or feeling shallow for judging attractiveness by appearance was a thing in the second wave, 70s and early 80s I think. It wasn't just feminists either.

Third wave feminism joyfully abandoned a lot of the sexual stuff that 2nd wavers had seen as a rock-solid core part of feminism. Porn, prostitution, promiscuity, personal preferences, penis-fever and whatever else starts with P, they were all accepted by the mainstream of the 3rd wave. This was called the sex wars, whereby the people still opposed to P - things were relegated to either a small radical fringe, or to the label of 2nd wave dinosaur. The two camps were rather inappropriately labeled sex-positive and sex-negative.

Possibly objectification was seen more simply by the 2nd wavers, there was a lot of focus on appearance and disapproval of viewing the body as an object without much reference to the whole person.

With the 3rd wave, personal choice was back in the spotlight and ONS, short-term or sex-focussed relationships had become respectable, so the fact of sexual objectification as a key part of attraction became impossible to ignore. Feminists became unashamed to admit to what individually physically attracted them, and to what turned them off.

The idea of objectification had never been limited to the body, but now it became more obvious that it typically included wider aspects of a person's performed sexual roles and relevant parts of their personality. The central idea is that it is a disproportionate focus on a limited subset of a personality, typically just things to do with their sexyness or attractiveness.

Maggie McNeil wrote in the link above "the personality of a female “sex object” is just as important to the average male observer as her body is, despite what some feminists would like to believe".
I disagree with this key point. Yes personality is important, but someone who is objectifying a person is not interested in the whole personality. I agree with most of the rest of what she wrote, but most of it is off the point.

She is just a very rude and weird person, and that's not objectification. The problem women have is that those situations happen all the time for us, from lots of different men, not just once in our lives.
