You cannot use the way things have been done to justify the way they are now. (argument from tradition).

Evidence based arguments from DNA, psychology, neurology and primatology are not an argument from tradition. You've made no claims regarding what you would like to change, so that is ridiculous to take a defensive stance on a utopia that you haven't even shared with us. What exactly would you like to do to occupy the human mind that doesn't take us away from our natural needs?

There is a reason monkeys do not make good pets. They, like other primates do not do well in conditions of slavery. We are too clever and our brains demand stimulation. We are also predators that thrive on the hunt. How do you think the DSM IV for example, explains a lot of the problems created by us living in society away from trees and vistas and hunting and otherwise normal human behaviors, and spending all our time in boxes within boxes, using boxes with wheels to get around to different boxes, to turn on glowing boxes to "work."

Do you suggest we grow our meat for example in petri dishes? Would that anesthetize the populace from the desire to kill (I think not.) (I'm not saying this is your argument, but it certainly is one I've heard before.)

What about pills? Should we be like that movie Equilibrium with Christian Bale?

OP was being a bit crude, but his point is that you obviously went to a "school" where there weren't any Ph.D's in anything remotely related to science. If you know what fallacies are then at least you know that epistemology demands ethical arguments be backed with strong evidence and rigorous logic. Theology is not psychology. And it certainly isn't biology or anthropology (or primatology).

I'm 30, I grew up catholic, went to a Mormon university and ended up living in a buddhist cult for 10 years. I've had some college education (7+ years but no major - fuck homophobic universities), and I think I applied myself more than you did. I've had a lot of time to study on religions and world history, and I'm a bit of a "home-grown" psychologist having grown up with a bipolar mother. (Most likely misdiagnosed BPD and/or NPD)

What's the last book you read? (I have some that I can offer to you if you are interested - you know - sciencey books)

Because I'm pretty sure it isn't anything that isn't a nice fatty science based book on sociology, or archeology, or psychology.

My guess is your "science" books are Eckhart Tole or someone with a "swami" or "father" in their first name from an "institute of higher knowledge" where no one there has any actual Ph.D.

Humans are animals, and in the past, we have been driven by aggression and violence. We are moving past that and evolving into a higher society.

Are you the type that would argue drone warfare is actually better than the real thing?

You aren't going to take the homo out of sapein for some time yet. Unless you imagine a reality where people are lobotomized. Taking the human out of the truth of what violence, bigotry, hate and war are does nothing but dehumanizes us. Many people become vegetarian because they have actually looked at the eyes of an animal they killed and they cannot bring themselves to do it again. Many people still continue to eat meat but gain more respect for it by taking part in actual hunting. It is not from removing this stuff from the public eye that people become more empathetic. It's actually counter intuitive that way. That's not how people learn to interact with their nature, in a natural environment.

So what exactly do you believe. Do you think white western society will cure the world of violence eventually? (As if -we are basically the cause of the worst shit.) Or do you have some shit hard on for some imaginary exotic "eastern" culture whose history of barbaric shit you just didn't learn enough about as a child for fear someone would claim "micro-aggressions". Do you think the Nepalese people are more enlightened then you because they have yoga and colorful temples? I lived for ten years in a buddhist cult - I can tell you that every fucking society on the planet is rife with injustice. Or do you think Icelandic culture doesn't have child rape? Or what about Swedish or Netherlands? They are "spotless" evolved beings because of their socialist paradise?

What exactly is "evolving" in society in your mind? How?

I'm a woman. I enjoy this shit because I enjoy all fight videos. Justiceporn doesn't uplaod fast enough. I've actually saved people's lives and animals lives via CPR/first aid training and being a caregiver. (Also being a coach for kids, as well as a volunteer animal shelter person etc - I'm not a demon that drinks blood - I'm a normal person.)

And its weird, what I can't watch is dramatized violence. (Like Law and Order.) Strangely I find that stuff sickening because they make it like it's a soft core porn (complete with shitty over-dramatic music.) I really, literally get sick watching dramatized war movies. But for some reason I enjoy places like r/morbidreality, r/catastrophicfailure etc.

I also hate the commercial break shizophrenic behavior of tv shows. So I literally will be watching (trying not to watch) a woman getting kidnapped in CSI - cut with dramatic lighting and shaky cameras to make the person "feel" the fear (don't need that thank you!) -and it will cut to a commercial break with dripping hamburger meat and a overly loud peppy voice calling for "hot deals on your favorite meat lovers!" That can't be good for society...

I HATE SJWs because most of them do what you do. They live in mind castles where they defend every "idea" they have overly. Anyone outside their castle of thought is a meanie/idiot/woman-hater whatever picture of evil they like to imagine is threatening their ego driven values.

I wouldn't be here - myself a feminist - if I didn't have a membranous brain capable of filtering out bad shit and taking in the good stuff, and being open to other perspectives. . . even ugly ones.

Its called having a conscience but being capable of understanding the grey areas of life. In fact I enjoy the grey areas. That's why I hang out in all these "awful" places probably. It gets my brain (amygdala and forebrain) juices working.

I am not in any way a social justice warrior. In fact, I am against them on pretty much everything. I don't think that violence is inherently barbaric. I think that using it as an emotional response is primitive. It's not the violence itself. I enjoy fighting competitively, and it was probably my favorite thing about my time in the Marines. But that involves two consenting adults, who know what they're getting into.

I am also not a white knight. White knighting is when a man tries to defend a woman playing the victim card when she instigated the violence. Would you call it white knighting if you saw a couple having an argument in the street, then the man slap the woman out of the blue, and someone came up to stop him?

I am also a feminist. Not what it has been stereotyped as, but what it always stood for: equality between the genders. That's why I subscribe to this sub. I think it's wrong when a woman tries to use her sex to get away with something that would be unacceptable for a man. The reverse is just as bad. I am for equality. That is what I would like to think PPD is based on.

The fact however is that the word "primative" means basic. Like I said before, you aren't going to stop parents from having the urge to hit their kids. Such people are not "primitive" people for having that urge. It's a natural urge. What makes the difference is what stops them from hitting their children?

Education, economic status, overall health and satisfaction with life. Those are things that could be corrected but you have to tackle a LOT of issues at once. You aren't going to make people suddenly "become evolved" by telling them how primitive their urges are (and shaming them for it.)

How do you propose to tackle things like PPD (post natal depression) for example. A natural thing that happens that can cause a woman to loose her self control and want to hit a child. Such a woman is not inferior for needing help. That's not for you to say. You are not a neurobiologist (or heaven forbid) a eugenicist (I hope.)
