This honestly is just so incredibly depressing. I won't link to the thread, but here's the post:

Title: I just had to call in a suspected domestic abuse and I'm freaking out

Message:

The title says it for the most part. My upstairs neighbor and her boyfriend were screaming so unbelievably loud and stomping around (I don't know what the bang noises actually were) that I genuinely was scared for this woman. I called 911 (and I am selfishly terrified that they will tell her it was me who called- the man is large and that frightens me if he knew I called) and told them that it could just be an argument but that I would feel so awful if something happened to her and I hadn't called. I would feel so embarrassed if the cops showed up because my husband and I got in a fight and if that is all it is I feel awful for calling. I am sure I did the right thing better safe than sorry but I am just panicking (and home alone) and needed to vent in a space I feel safe.

tl;dr version: She hears a couple arguing loudly and assumes that it's automatically the woman who is at risk and the man who is the aggressor.

You know, I like to be optimistic about mens' situation gradually improving, but there are days when I read comments like these and feel like I have to resign myself to a life of automatic demonisation just because I'm a guy. :(

I actually lost friends at one stage because I had the nerve to stand up for myself when a woman in our crew was berating me for no reason during a drunken night out and treating me like shit, and we were the only two people present. Everybody believed her that I'd started it, I lost a bunch of my friends.

Shit's fucked up.

As a counter point to this, does anyone here have any evidence, anecdotal or otherwise, that there's hope for things moving in the opposite direction for us men at some point in the future?
