Mary P. Koss thinks that it is "inappropriate" to consider men who have been raped by women as rape victims, because "their penetration experience is not similar to what women are reporting". She calls it "unwanted contact".

If you ever see a feminist talk about how "the patriarchy teaches men not to cry or talk about their feelings", show them this.

idk. when i see a man crying. i know those tears arent cheap or fake. Someone, or something just died, he got kicked in the groin, or someone broke his heart.

Men have been engrained that it is never ok to cry, and when we do it means something.

Far better reasons to cry than not being able to get the printer to work.

Far better reasons to cry than not being able to get the printer to work.

But what if you don't have a spare toner cartridge? That seems enough reason to cry.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And what if you have a whole box full of cartridges but can't manage to get the box open? Oh, the horror!

Not sure why it's even needed to be said, but this is "satire" (well at least her warped up attempt at it). She's mocking the perceived societal standard that man shouldn't cry, let's just get that one out of the way. She's not actually mocking men who cry.

But then on the other hand, it's only feminists who seem that the society has some warped standards on men who cry, probably just projecting their own experiences of being told not to show her emotion so publicly because people don't want to watch other people cry all the time. So my only guess is that this woman is indeed a feminist (quick search and overview of her other articles show's that is indeed the case). Why the fuck is she writing articles for men's health? There plenty of other people who would do these topics greater justice.

The fact that people can't tell the difference between satire & the normal articles actually says more about what the guardian publishes then it does about it's readers.

Remember that the guardian is also the publication that told us that air conditioning is sexism, cheerleaders are exploited workers & that we should throw men under the bus automatically if a woman makes a rape claim.

[–]MrDoradus 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a solid argument, which really* could apply to some people having difficulties deciding the intent of the article.

I personally didn't take the fact that it was posted by The Guardian into consideration, but I can see how someone could actually question the real meaning behind it keeping in mind their track record.

[–]blueoak9 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not sure why it's even needed to be said, but this is "satire"

Let me explain this to you - this "satire" so closely resembles seriously stated beliefs that there is not a enough difference to identify it as a parody. It's called Poe's Law, and it means that this particular topic is off limits to her, and I mean her, for satire

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you, I was like 80% sure... But it's hard to tell with the guardian.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Clearly satire, still not much of a read. She's stretched "the tears of a man are said to bring a curse to his village" line out into a thousand odd word article.

[–]AloysiusC 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ok, so this is satire and some are going to say people are stupid for taking it literally. But is it? In an age of "I bathe in male tears" and "patriarchy fuck face", can you expect people to be able to tell the difference anymore?

[–]Timonidas 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, the fringe.

[–]Lethn 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Almost every feminist article I've read about men: "Masculinity is a problem, we need to let men be sensitive and express their emotions more easily, they should be encouraged to wear dresses and do more feminine things"

Eva Wiseman: "Is there anything worse than a man who cries?"

Pick one you fucking bitch.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

They should just block the ducts up with a drop of UHU, men. Wouldn’t it be easier for everybody in the long run? Easier that than trying to solve the brutality of masculinity, say, or socialise our sons to talk about emotions.

It's the first one, the normal script for feminists making a demonstration of caring about men.

  • Toxic masculinity, men don't have problems, they cause them.

  • Femininity the cure to masculinity; boys are really girls wearing boy masks.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ahhh "The Mask You Live In", the movie executive-produced by Maria Shriver, which is all about how exaggerated depictions of masculinity are horrible, damaging things, awful for everyone involved.

Aaaand who did Maria Shriver choose to marry, by the way?

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER.

Yes. Him. He who coined the term "girly-man" as a put-down.

Just let that sink in for a minute and savor the hypocrisy.

I am not sure why feminists like Ms. Shriver feel the need to propagate a message they so obviously do not believe in.

[–]dungone 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This lady must think that men like her husband are the norm. It's an all-too-common case of feminist projection where they are criticizing their own ideals of men by projecting it onto men who are, in actuality, nothing like that to begin with. Not that they are little girls wearing a mask of masculinity, either. She has no fucking clue.

[–]EnderWyatt 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That movie was very interesting until the myriad of uncited statistics and all of the blaming of boys for shooting schools because video games.

[–]Funcuz 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I stopped worrying about what any woman had to say about male emotional health long ago. They don't know what makes men tick so why would they, of all people, have any clue what makes for healthy masculinity ?

With that being said, I have to be completely honest here : If your dog dies, cry a little. If your wife leaves you...go ahead and shed a few tears. Can't deal with snarky remarks from co-workers or handle all the pressure your boss puts you under ? Get a new job. I just can't respect a man who cries. I can't really respect many woman who cry too often either and it's my opinion that what we need is a serious dose of stoicism in our society.

I'm sick to death of being told that it's okay to cry. According to who ? I don't need to cry. I don't want to cry. I have no fucking interest whatsoever in holding somebody's fucking hand and leaving a trail of tears across the house. I don't need to talk about my emotions (what fucking good has that ever done anybody in the history of humanity ?) or get a hug because I'm feeling stressed. That's female shit and that's fine for them but I don't understand it because it seems incredibly pointless to me. I like to solve problems not sit around jabbering on endlessly about them.

Look, I know perfectly well that a lot of you are going to file this under the "traditionalist" or big-C conservative columns but I promise you that I'm neither of them. I'm simply a practical person and I just don't want to hear anybody's sob stories about how life is giving them so many problems. I've got my own problems and since nobody's going out of their way to solve them for me I don't see what good it's going to do for me to take on everybody else' emotional baggage. What for ? There's sweet fuck all I can do about them anyway and apart from that, women don't tend to want their problems solved in the first place : They want you to sit there and pretend you give a shit about Shelley's better fashion sense. No.

I will not cry because I just don't need to. When my father is lying on his death bed or some shit like that, then I'll have a reason to cry. Until then, fuck off with anybody's "You need to be in touch with your feelings" bullshit. No, I don't.

[–]blueoak9 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This isn't really about her own depravity and misandry, this is at least as much about the depravity and misandry of whatever public she thinks she is appealing to. I have no idea if these are her real feelings but I doubt it. They look much more calculated than that.

[–]Lrellok 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you SO MUCH< this is exactly what i needed. I love you guys. I have been arguing with some feminists for weeks that women hate men who express their emotions and it is women, not patriarchy, that is responsible for this.

And now i cannot find the post showing that violence is directly caused by social shaming.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeech, just looking at that photo of her makes me want to cry. And then vomit.

[–]wazzup987 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i think this is satire... i hope

[–]thatbuzzguy 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Her article is poorly written. She is trying to be funny, trying to be satirical, and doing a poor job at both. If you want to respond, tell her that her article is poorly written. There is no greater insult to someone who fancies themselves a sophisticated and talented writer. Nothing else needs to be said, or done. This should be boilerplate response for any such articles.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I get that it's satire but women who get to cry at the least inconvenience should really just avoid talking about male tears altogether. Kinda a bad look. Like they're making themselves out to be experts on men's emotions just because they're women. I suppose I could see a man writing a similar article on women who don't wear makeup, say, but that would be similarly obnoxious and officious.

There are a lot of reasons men don't cry just as there are a lot of reasons women don't usually go out with "naked" faces. There's attractiveness of sexual dimorphism: men can't cry as easily and women's skin is supposed to appear softer, their features more youthful, etc. There's what men might say, sure, but perhaps more important is how women will probably treat you. (Women are notorious for being the "appearance police", especiallt to each other.) There's personal pride which, despite the poststructuralist narrative, is not 100% dictated by culture.

And the fact is men can be seen as admirable when they cry in the right situations. Just not on demand. And even in situations where it's appropriate, crying men will not receive the same sort of attention as crying women. Another reason crying is more readily associated with women: they actually have an incentive to do it, not merely a lack of disincentive against it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The femileft really wanta men to be allowed to be victims.

So long as they are not victims of women.

Are male victims of female domestic violence allowed to cry?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women cry because when they cry they get help. Men are conditioned not to cry because it doesn't get them help, so it's a waste of time and energy. Moreover it signals weakness to potential mates.
