Now women can use special apps to anonymously report “harassment” at work. Men won’t even know who their accuser is. Orwell would be proud.

It doesn't get more glaringly hypocritical than this. Reported on the same day on the BBC website.

"Ex-Dragons' Den star Doug Richard charged with child sex offences"

He's accused with 3 counts of "sexual activity" with 1 child aged 13 on 1 day:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tees-34177048

"Home tutor 'seduced 13-year-old' boy"

She's accused of "having sex" with 1 boy aged 13 over 100 times over 4 years:

Here's what I submitted as a complaint:

As a news source, I'd like to imagine that you are unbiased in your reporting of crimes and alleged perpetrators. However, on September 7, 2015, you published two articles involving individuals charged with a virtually identical sex crime that were heavily biased, and I'd like to bring this to your attention.

Regarding Carolyn Keeling, an adult woman accused of having sex with a 13 year old boy, your article was titled "Home tutor 'seduced 13-year-old' boy". However regarding Doug Richard, an adult man was accused of having sex with a 13 year old girl, your article was titled "Ex-Dragons' Den star Doug Richard charged with child sex offences".

Your decision to call the woman's crime "seduction" rather than the more appropriate "sex offense", and in particular your decision to include a section title "'Rather enjoyed it'" in large letters and then gloss over the description of the pain caused to the victim, is not appropriate. In doing this you have furthered the widely accepted idea that women who sexually abuse young children are not really committing a crime, that their victims are in fact "lucky", and that the abuse is more of a joke than anything serious. This kind of misinformation keeps thousands of young boys and girls from coming forward with their abuse and shames them into silence, thinking something is wrong with them because they didn't "rather enjoy" their abuse like they feel they should have.

Institutionalized sexism, hurting men.

We're told this is actually benevolent misogyny which helps men and hurts women.

lol nice, I was wondering if any of you were polite enough to point this out to the BBC, I know I can't do it without swearing at them, I hate those people.

And what kind of hypocrisy are we looking for here? I agree that the seducing part is kind of stupid. Luring for a man vs seducing. However that cool guy Doug, his article contains a very dry accounting of what he's charged with and the allegation, that is it. None of it can easily be shown to be bias compared to the woman report.

Repeatedly, you will find around the world, that when a women is charged with rape or sexual abuse etc., of a child, all sorts of weasel words will be used in reports to downplay the crime.

This BBC report is a classic case: The woman has "seduced" the "boy". But the man has been charged with "child sex offences". Note the use of the word "child".

And the headlines/titles are very important. They set the tone for the whole report.

That's true to a degree, however everyone still hears child when they hear boy.

[–]Narvster 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No, they don't. Boy has become far more synonymous with young men as in boy bands.

So whilst some people will associate it with child I bet the majority doesn't

[–]mwobuddy -5 points-4 points-3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

boy bands arent usually 20-30 year olds. They're usually 13-18.

[–]Narvster 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Really?

Apologies for the source but according to this one direction are averaging around for 22 now. And I think you'll find most boy bands tend to be at least 18 when they form, for legal reasons.
