I really don't get the point of these. If someone is going to rape, a stupid poster isn't going to stop them.

That's not even getting into the stupidity of it. You can consent while under the influence. You may not like the decision when you've sobered up, but you consented.

You consented to impairing your brain. You probably do so to loosen up your inhibitions in the first place, therefore you are responsible for your actions under the influence. Which is why we hold drunk drivers accountable for their actions.

No one forced you to drink alcohol. No one forced you to drink excessively either. If they did force you, that's an entirely different situation all together.

These things are stupid and serve no purpose other than to piss off men who already know rape is bad, like the 99% of other men out there.

So please help me understand. If a woman drives a car (or maybe does something else?) when drunk, she's responsible for her actions. But if she has sex, she's not? Or she might be... unless she regrets it later? In some cases MUCH later?

The picture seems like she's being pretty non consenting, and she's in the men's bathroom. That feels like it's a whole different situation than what the text is conveying.

Why can't we have a poster with the girl happy and drunk? That's what happens. Not what's shown. What is shown is clearly rape. The problem comes in to play, when the guy thinks he is actually getting lucky and has no signs of rape. Until the morning after.....

I like how rape is some kind of preventable accident to these people. If a dude is going to rape women he can't be deterred by advertising. It is not like he doesn't realize that it is a crime.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that, without context, I'm not sure the poster bothers me that much. Yes, it doesn't address any more than one scenario of sexual assault, but, the reason why I'm not so bothered is because I read about what happened afterward.

A men's rights group in Edmonton started posting its own version (what the news outlets are calling a "parody" when it should really be called a "supplementary edition") that says "Lying about sexual assault = crime" and "Just because you regret a one night stand" etc etc. Now... that's not quite the best approach, but I can see what the group was trying to get at.

If they really wanted to drive the point home that rape is not a gendered issue, a brilliant idea would have been like, an angle that splits the inside of the bathroom from the outside (with the wall splitting the image. On the inside of the bathroom, is a man trying to take advantage of an uncertain-looking intoxicated woman. On the outside of the bathroom, an man blushing with drunkenness and equally unsure being fondled by a woman who appears to be feeding him drinks.

Under the image, "ONLY A SOBER YES IS A YES" Below that: "Don't take the chance. Don't be that person."

Edmonton as a whole kinda tripped on their own shoelaces on this one.

Common opinion is that male on female or male on male rape makes up the vast, vast majority of college rape. But I haven't seen any hard numbers on this.
