Right now, I'm sitting on the toilet writing this while trying to understand straight white male privilege...

A lil background if anyone has seen any of my posts. I'm currently a cook at 2 well known and established restaurants in upper MN. I climbed thru the ranks from being a lowly line cook at a Perkins to a line cook at supper club to a banquet chef and now my head chefs right hand man. Sous Chef.

It took all but 5 years and a lot of hard work early mornings and some of my own money to buy some much needed Sunday morning produce to avoid 86ing some favorite dishes.

Now here's my quandary... I landed a line cook/catering chef position at another restaurant recently and was told by a few people that the only reason I got the job wasn't because of my semi impressive resume but because I'm a straight white male.

Wtf!?

I'm pretty sure it was my resume and consistent pestering the kitchen manager weekly for any open positions that got me the job... Not some privilege.

So my main question is what is this privilege, where, when did I obtain it? And how the fuck do I get rid of it because I'm losing friends due to jealousy all because of this straight white male privilege...

Also I should note, I'm 30, divorced with 2 kids that I see infrequently contrary to the divorce decree due to my ex wanting my kids to be in almost every after school activity known to man.
