Sorry about the new account. I don't want this linked to my regular account. I'm sorry if I ramble a little. I normally structure my posts well and logically, but I haven't thought this one through.

Being unable to talk is a real thing. I was lucky because a male friend of mine had a similar experience in his past (I thought I understood him when he told me....). I always figured it would be somebody else because I don't live a wild life. I thought I could trust the people I've known for years. I'd say live and learn, but you go there, going back isn't an option.

Without going into detail (I'm sorry, but the detail of the incident is not my main purpose), a couple dozen shots at a birthday party (with friends you have known almost 20 years) can end terribly if you don't know one of them is willing to fuck you without a condom after you are drifting in and out while passed out (because she wants a child or a relationship or something -- I still don't know except that she was the only person not getting drunk).

In any case, the full effect took a couple weeks to start sinking in. In hindsight, this was certainly because I was attempting to devise scenarios in my head where I might not have been taken advantage of -- where I was a willing participant. It's weird because you know you are clinging to ideas that cannot conceivably be accurate, but they seem more appealing than the reality that someone you thought trustworthy could behave like that.

This was 8 months ago and I get to find out how screwed up my life will be for the next 20 years (depending on if her child is mine or some other unlucky soul). Unlike a woman who can choose to abort the child, I'm stuck in the legal position where the state doesn't care and if the child is mine, I'll have to pay child support to my rapist for a long time simply because the "Tender Years Doctrine" was thrown out by the Supreme Court, but is very much unofficially in effect where I live (according to my lawyer). This problem is compounded because the mother has initial 'possession' of the child which also gives her a huge advantage.

It's not that I dislike the idea of a child in general (I don't hate children and it's certainly not the child's fault), but I can't stand the thought of having to deal with that woman for the rest of my life. Further, knowing that she holds such a low opinion of humanity, how can she possibly raise a child in a good environment? Thinking about the inevitability of the situation turns my stomach into knots.

In my case, it wasn't that I was uninformed; I had read a great deal about Men's Rights, MGTOW, and similar a year or so before. I knew the CDC numbers for male rape/forced-to-penetrate, but I ignorantly accepted on some level that I was immune because of the company I kept or that someone else had made a mistake that I knew to avoid.

A couple other people have heard the story (without any names) and simply laughed. The women thought it funny or enpowering. The men wanted to be that 'lucky' and couldn't see a world where the person in the story wasn't "humble bragging". This is why I don't believe I'm going to talk. The potential downside to my social and professional circles is too great (I think the latter is not mentioned enough as unlike women, a man who talks about such things is at an immediate disadvantage at work due to society perceptions).

Most men have to go it alone with even their closest friends and family not understanding or actively belittling them. I feel so lucky that I have a couple people in my life who understand and trust me. I hope the people who read this will think twice about their reactions to the people in their life.

So if you find it unreadable now, I am sorry but I added a watermark and a stupid font because the last time I didn't try to protect something I wrote someone stole and won a $500 amazon giftcard in a local writing contest. Yip. Also it was written with a degree of haste because I'm a terrible student but my information is solid (I am not one of those impressive redditors so don't expect a masterpiece).

Male survivors of sex any assaults often fear they won’t be taken seriously

[–][deleted] 43 points44 points45 points 11 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

I don't mean to nitpick, but is "survivors" really the correct word to use? Because I'm pretty sure that sexual assault =/ murder.

I'm all for true equality but using buzz words to try and make something seem even larger than it is won't do any good for the cause in the long run.

Am I being crazy here?

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

pretty sure its also used for females as well, seemed odd, but I've seen "rape survivor" and "sexual assault survivor" before.

[–][deleted] -7 points-6 points-5 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It is, but it's a term coined and thrown around by feminists to sensationalize the issue of rape. You don't see victims of other crimes which aren't likely to result in death calling themselves "survivors"; if I've been jumped and had money taken from me, I'm not a "mugging survivor", because that would be fucking ridiculous.

This sub generally dislikes feminists because of the way they sensationalize shit and demonize men. Some stuff I see here is just as bad, now to the point of even copying feminist buzzwords to grab attention. Remember that sticky from a while back which basically said "let's not sink to the level of feminists by just mirroring their content, complaints, etc. just in a male context"? This is an example of that happening.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Pretty much this. Rape is a horrible crime, but it's not any more horrible than someone beating the shit out of a man and putting him in the hospital. Probably less horrible, even, depending on how hurt the man is and how (non)violent the rape was.

I hate the fact that feminists have successfully managed to portray "rape" and "murder" as equal crimes. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so retarded.

A lot of people don't like the term "victims" because of the implications of helplessness or weakness.

Momentarily, yes, but I can understand not wanting to feel stuck that way.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They can't go back in time and no longer be a victim of rape. They will always be a victim of that rape, at that moment in their life.

But, you move on from it. You don't need a term for it. You just move on with life, like victims of other crimes. There aren't "[attempted] murder survivors" or "theft survivors".

I think the "survivor" crap just has people hang onto their victimization more. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear "survivor" is the event someone survived. I used to self harm, the idea of calling myself a "survivor" of it [or depression] is crazy to me. I'd just sit around and think about what I survived... as a survivor of it.

To me, a self proclaimed "rape survivor" is trying to convince themselves more than anyone else. I don't think those people, if they are real rape victims, have actually gotten over it yet.

Your identity shouldn't be tied to your rape, but that's what "rape survivor" does. It ties your rape to your identity. Why would anyone want to do that? Doesn't seem healthy to me.

[–]smugmeister -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the problem is only when survivor is used as an ongoing status, almost like a point on one's CV. Which sadly does seem overly trendy with certain groups these days. Then you are right, it continues to reinforce that event in your life.. But the same goes for victim, or any term..

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But if they can't stop someone from doing something, they are helpless

[–]GilberryDinkins 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For some reason when "victims" is written in quotes I picture someone doing air quotes. Yea yea sure..."victims."

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the idea is that "Survivor" might be more psychologically empowering than "Victim".

[–]HulkThoughts 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Women use the term survivor... why should that only be allowed for one gender? That doesn't seem fair at all. Equality or bust.

[–]Rolten 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I find it odd to use that term for women as well. Why would we have to copy them?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminists* use the term survivor. It's just one of many ways they sensationalize shit. Let's not sink to their level.

[–]zer0t3ch 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Eh, they use it, why can't we?

Plus, some sexual assault is so violent that men do fear for their lives.

[–]keeb119 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Survive doesn't mean about to be murdered. It just means you got through an ordeal. Just because the perpetrator may not of intended to kill the victim, the victim can die of there own hand.

[–]Stephen1985 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh man im right there with you, you survive falling from great height or a shark attack, you do not survive unwanted sexual assault.

[–]primar1 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why? Because even the most innocuous story (I managed to break away and spend twenty minutes throwing water balloons with friends instead of going on a walk, and was told she would have run into traffic because of it if she hadn't run into 'person') I relayed, legally should have triggered an investigation.. EDIT:Bit more context, the counselors at my previous unversity were a part of,a nd required to report to the rest of, the title ix process.

[–]TheRealMouseRat 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"I was out fucking another woman, just go back to sleep"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Perhaps male survivors of sexual assault fear that they won't be taken seriously because society, at large, doesn't take us seriously.

[–]caius_iulius_caesar 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wonder whatever gives them that idea?

[–]crabpipe 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[+]orcworc -16 points-15 points-14 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It is a sign of a man to be physically larger than feeble women, so of course naturally you will not be taken seriously. You should be able to defend yourself against a women, now if there rhonda rhousey level of stuff than I can imagine the assault to be real. That being said i've had my assed layed out on a mat before by a woman.

[–]__theHumanist__ 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most rape isn't the violent kind you are thinking about (and those are much easier to verify and solve because they generally leave a decent crime scene and tend to be reported immediately).

Now, imagine a woman whispering in your ear that if you don't have sex with her, she'll tell everyone you raped her (turns out that the Joseph/Potiphar story in the Bible isn't that uncommon). What do you do?

You might prevent her raping you, but in the process, you will likely create a crime scene that will secure your conviction by a jury of your peers. Even if you make a clean break, her story will still bring the full power of the law down on you. I would argue that her power to bring many armed men to threaten your safety and remove your freedoms is physically stronger than the strongest man in the world. Even if you are vindicated in court, your reputation will be ruined by the many people who will still believe you are (or at least might be) guilty.

You might argue that she wouldn't actually do that, but you are arguing that someone who is crazy enough to attempt to extort sex wouldn't actually carry through on lying to the police (after all, women are pretty much never prosecuted for lying about rape and if she get's scared, she simply refuses to testify -- the case goes cold, they can't prove she's lying, she's another rape statistic, and you still lose).

If you do have sex with her, you get a different load of trouble. You cannot talk to anyone. You find trusting women very difficult. You find physical intimacy nearly impossible. And to make things better, you cannot talk to the police because either they won't believe you, your state/country doesn't consider it rape (it's some misdemeanour or similar), or worst of all, the crazy woman will claim you raped her (which the police will believe) at which point you have been raped and get to pay the price too.

This is nowhere near a complete dissertation on the topic, but I'm sure you'll be able to expand this to its fullness.

"the women unexpectedly started pouring him shots, and one told him she was going to thank him for all of his help."

LOOOOOOOOL get the fuck out of here. That is not sexual assault.

[–]alcockell 13 points14 points15 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

If he blacked out - then under Uk law, if she enveloped him without affirm consent - the feminist defn of rape - he was raped.

Same under current college legislation.

[–]RegretfulEducation 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I thought men couldn't be raped under UK law.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, technically this is sexual assault, but the standard sentence is quite similar.

[–]alcockell 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They can't - "sexually assaulted". All down to Koss..

[+]SpaghettiPatrolla -14 points-13 points-12 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

"Enveloped him" hahaha.

You really want to stoop that low and use the feminists definition of things?

[–]RobbieGee 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Oh right, sorry. That was a weak troll attempt, didn't even notice it at first.

[–]SpaghettiPatrolla -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah yes, because I have an alternate view point I'm a troll.

Most of the people on "Mens Rights" are basically male feminists. Fuckin gross if you ask me.

You all act like you have periods. You DO know that's where feminism comes from right? Periods.

[–]alcockell 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Affirm consent is law of the land in UK.
