Why are we making choices about infants' future sex lives again?

Disgusting article.

Milo is overrated.

[–]tygertiger[S] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You think so? In what way? I think he otherwise has a lot of interesting things to say and I give him credit for taking on feminists and supporting #GamerGate. I find him witty too, which ups his cred. He definitely got it wrong on this one, though.

[–]Fhwqhgads3 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

He's wrong on other things too, not just this. We need to find someone who's right on more than just GG to worship.

[–]Fhwqhgads11 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

By his own admission, too much of a pussy to practise what he preaches. If the case for MGM is soo fucking rock solid and the idea so awesome, what are you waiting for Milo?

And I LOVE the excuse 'you don't remember the pain so everything is fine'. That's real ethical. This guy is one of the figureheads of an ethics movement?

What an asshole.

This article promotes a great deal of misinformation. It's troubling that the author sincerely promotes genital cutting as a cosmetic choice people should force on their children (the author conflates RIC with genital cutting as a consenting adult throughout).

From article:

"More to the point, I’m not sure it’s consistent with manosphere principles. If “game,” the system by which men on many of these forums say they live in order to attract more and better-looking women, consists of changing your body shape and changing your behaviour, why shouldn’t it include making the best of yourself through a tiny surgical procedure? You lift so your sexual market value goes up, right? You cut your hair for the same reason? Well, getting trimmed down there is just good game, bros."

People all have an opinion about their bodies. The intactivist point is each person should have a say about their body.

Circumcision isn’t a recent invention of misandrists, sadists or religious nuts: 15,000 years ago, men realised that making their wieners more attractive improved their chances of oral sex.

Uh.... no. It was to prevent kids from wanking.

[–]tygertiger[S] 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Once someone's decided they're going to put your penis in their mouth, a small ridge of skin behind the head is not going to be a deal-breaker.

[–]Cantioy87 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are absolutely right on that.

[–]Cantioy87 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

At least in the USA, male genital cutting was popularized as a deterrent for masturbation. If one makes arguments that include consideration for ancient religious and cultural practices, as Milo seems to be hinting at here, one has to omit sexuality and hygiene. Most Judeo-Christian religions necessarily prohibit oral sex (no intercourse unless for procreation). And hygiene was not a human concern until about the 16th century (or later), when germs were theorized. Genital cutting predates all of that, because it is an archaic cultural invention.

[–]Black_caped_man 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

And hygiene was not a human concern until about the 16th century (or later), when germs were theorized.

In the Christian western world at least. Regular bathing and hygiene has been a staple in many eastern cultures for a very long time. Even the vikings were known for their propensity to clean themselves and keep their hair combed and washed.

And there is a text written by a highly respected Jewish scholar during the 11'th (or 10'th) century about how the benefits of circumcision is that it makes sex less pleasurable for both the man and the woman.

Something about how a woman who has been with an intact man would be hard to separate from his side.

[–]Cantioy87 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Thank you for adding clarifications. I hadn't heard about that origin of cutting before.

!3th century Rabbi Moses Maimonides wrote:

“As regards circumcision, I think that one of its objects is to limit sexual intercourse, and to weaken the organ of generation as far as possible, and thus cause man to be moderate. Some people believe that circumcision is to remove a defect in man’s formation, but every one can easily reply: How can products of nature be deficient so as to require external completion, especially as the use of the foreskin to that organ is evident. This commandment has not been enjoyed as a complement to a deficient physical creation, but as a means for perfecting man’s moral shortcomings. The bodily injury caused to that organ is exactly that which is desired; it does not interrupt any vital function, nor does it destroy the power of generation. Circumcision simply counteracts excessive lust; for there is no doubt that circumcision weakens the power of sexual excitement, and sometimes lessens the natural enjoyment; the organ necessarily becomes weak when it loses blood and is deprived of its covering from the beginning. Our Sages (Beresh. Rabba, c. 80) say distinctly: It is hard for a woman, with whom an uncircumcised had sexual intercourse, to separate from him. This is, as I believe, the best reason for the commandment concerning.”

Emphasis mine.

I could not for the life of me recall his name, but I did stumble upon another interesting statement, also by a Rabbi. See here.

There is no doubt that the intentions for circumcision is to limit sexual enjoyment. I just felt that I needed to give you an actual source to my initial statement since it was really vague.

And TIL that if I weren't circumcised I could ejaculate "like a horse."

It's Breitbart and it's pro-circumcision. Tell me again why i should bother reading this shit?

[–]aesopstortoise 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Someone once said to me, "Why bother? Because the world is full of idiots who believe anything they read in a "serious publication" ..."

Pardon me, it was just too good an opportunity to pass up.

I do actually think Milo is being a total knob on this occasion.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't know who said that to you, but he's obviously a moron!

[–]tygertiger[S] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Milo is in general pro-MRA and anti-feminist. It's a surprising about-face for him.

[–]tygertiger[S] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I'm not going to discredit and disavow the guy because I still think he has a lot of good things to say. He also has a right to his opinion and to express it. I will even acknowledge his acerbic wit in this article. He's a good writer and he's funny. He's done a lot for #GamerGate and fighting Feminism.

This, however, comes across as a screed on his own personal predilections and desires couched in the 'safer' argument of a plea to female desire. He obviously prefers cut penises in his partners but instead of coming out (pun unintended) with it (probably because this is Breitbart) he bases his argument on the foundation of what women want, instead of admitting it's what he wants.

Really very unconvincing, unoriginal, and unethical.

TL;DR: Don't have any heroes. They will always disappoint you.

[–]Cantioy87 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

He did say he prefers cut penises.

[–]tygertiger[S] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes, but that is not the crux of his argument. His overriding point is that it is what women want. I believe that his entire position is based solely on his own desires but that he disingenuously projects this onto women in order to make his argument 'safer' for this particular audience. He doesn't give a shit what women want (nor should he).

[–]Black_caped_man 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

His overriding point is that it is what women want.

Which is actually demonstrably false. A majority of women who have been with both circumcised and intact penises prefer intact penises.

[–]Scimitar66 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think that some thoughtful, kind, carefully worded e-mails might help him see where he's misinformed.

[–]caius_iulius_caesar 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not clear why he regards infant circumcision as necessary to indulge his own or women's ostensible preferences in adult men.

[–]NotYoursToCut 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"It’s not as if women don’t go under the knife to please men."

^ They certainly don't as infants.

I'm just curious if the author would be OK with women having their labia snipped at birth to appease their future male partners. And we all know that women have even MORE folds down there and are MORE prone to infection.

[–]Ultramegasaurus 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

And are dirtier.

[–]TR6Cool 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thank God I live in Europe.

Only religious nuts circumcise their children here.

[–]LOLer_coaster -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And amazingly enough there's no epidemic of phimosis, male UTIs or penile cancer among men in Europe. Hmm...

[–]NotYoursToCut 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"NO ONE WANTS TO LIVE IN A WORLD OF UNCIRCUMCISED PENISES"

Newsflash, Milo: we do. Now go fuck yourself.

breitbart

Does anyone take that site seriously?

[–]tygertiger[S] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think it's worth reading for an alternative viewpoint. They have some interesting columnists.

[–]LOLer_coaster -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

99% of what they write is trash. It's no different than salon.com or dailykos.

[–]caius_iulius_caesar 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And you should do it to your newborn sons, too, as early into their lives as possible.

People like this want routine infant circumcision because they like looking at little boys' circumcised penises. It turns them on. (Otherwise they'd let the kid decide later.)

I just wish they'd be honest about it.

[–]LOLer_coaster 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Notice how he uses no actual evidence to back up his claims. He mentions penile cancer but says nothing about how likely circumcision to prevent that vs. the risk of complications from the surgery. HIV transmission is brought up, but nothing about simply using condoms is vastly more effective. He brings up the bogeyman of phimosis but makes no mention of how common it is in Europe where the vast majority of men aren't circumcised. These are the sorts of retarded arguments you'd expect to get from a 7th grader.

[–]tygertiger[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. Basically all this amounts to is "I like to suck cut cocks!"
