okokok, so none of us can do anything. fwiw i did upvote it, so i was raising awareness. /s

but if it was my own community (we don't need things like these initiatives over here, we have a guaranteed living wage ... although we're fighting for a basic income), i could get the town council involved, spread the word on facebook, put up flyers, do all kinds of stuff. regardless of the fact that i'm never going to be president.

you dont need to be the guy who creates the shelter, it's okay to just be a vocal proponent and make things happen that way. maybe you can inspire someone who /does/ have the resources to make things happen. a defeatist attitude is never going to help. i was just addressing what the next step could be: gather some more information and spread it. and be snarky about it!

edit: i would like to add that "raising awareness", from where i stand, sounds a lot like: "let someone else deal with it". someone has to take the first step, someone has to go from awareness to action the only question is how. a "like" is cool and all, but isn't going to get stuff done.

I didn't say that nobody can do nothing. What I'm saying is that people are doing what they can, and raising awareness is a big part of that. Building support for these shelters is necessary in order to get the funding, the building space, the government support, etc.

So you would raise awareness on Facebook, on flyers, etc. instead of Reddit. The person you responded to is raising awareness on Reddit and possibly other places as well.

Then why are you attacking people that are being vocal proponents of a shelter in Madison?

Exactly.

So all of this comes down to attitude, which is basically strategy. Having a "defeatist" attitude if you want to call it that can actually be quite effective, because it can drive others to step up instead of thinking the issue is already being solved.

Yes, someone does, but not everybody. And some people can't act in ways outside of awareness for whatever reason, so it's unfair to attack those people that are doing what they can to raise awareness. I didn't know about the dire need need in Madison, and others started talking about it, so that person raising awareness brought others to also raise awareness on the issue already, and informed me and others.

On another note, thanks for the upvote. It's nice to have that kind of support at least.
